VinFast Limo Green: strengths, weaknesses

Affordable MPV with good range and power output

VinFast Limo Green: strengths, weaknesses

VinFast officially entered the people carrier segment with the Limo Green multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). Notably, it is actually the brand’s second three-row ride in the Philippine market, with the first being the VF 9, but it is far more accessible to more buyers due to its price.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the range of the VinFast Limo Green?

According to NEDC, the VinFast Limo Green can cover up to 450 kilometers from a single full charge.
  • How much horsepower and torque can the VinFast Limo Green produce?

The VinFast Limo Green can produce up to 201 horsepower and 280 Newton-meters of torque.
  • With that said, the VinFast Limo Green could be a burgeoning best-seller for the Vietnamese car brand’s local arm. As mentioned, it is priced attractively, plus, it has decent performance figures as far as electric vehicles (EV) are concerned.

But what are the specific strengths of the VinFast Limo Green? Also, does it have any notable weaknesses? Let’s find out here.

    Pros

    Spacious interior

Inside the VinFast Limo, Green features a well-packaged interior with seats for up to seven occupants, fabric upholstery, and manual air-conditioning. It isn’t the most stylish interior among MPVs, but it gets the job done thanks to its flat floor and well-arranged third row, which won’t leave anyone hanging for legroom or elbowroom.

Additionally, the vehicle boasts a trunk capacity of 126 liters with all seats up. When the third row is folded down, it has 607 liters to work with, which is more than enough for several travel bags. Fold the second and third row down, and it has a maximum cargo capacity of 1,245 liters, and that’s enough room for loading large (or awkwardly-shaped) objects.

With those characteristics, the Limo Green may be able to serve well as a family car for transporting children to and from school and for heavy weekend chores (shopping and laundry).

Its spacious cabin may also make the VinFast Limo Green a good option for those looking to electrify their commercial or business fleet. It can fit in as a great people-carrier for office trips, and it can even fulfill the role of an in-city passenger shuttle. This includes being used as an airport transport vehicle since it has the capacity to carry five people (third row folded down) and has room to spare for luggage.

For reference, the VinFast Limo Green measures 4,740 millimeters (mm) long, 1,872 mm wide, and 1,723 mm high. It also has a wheelbase length of 2,840 mm and a ground clearance of 170 mm.

    Decent set of amenities

While the VinFast Limo Green uses black plastics and mostly flat surfaces in its cabin, it does offer a decent set of amenities.

Apart from what was mentioned above, the model keeps its occupants entertained with a 10-inch display with Bluetooth and Wifi connectivity. The said screen is linked to a four-piece speaker set, while charging devices inside the MPV can be done via USB and 12-volt ports spread all around.

Notably, the Limo Green doesn’t come with a dedicated gauge cluster. Instead, its driver has to look at its central display to monitor vehicle speed and range.

    Other in-vehicle amenities include:

    • Manually-adjustable seats
    • Electronic parking brake
    • Front cabin center armrest

On the outside, the VinFast-made nameplate also has LED headlamps with automatic activation, 18-inch wheels, and power-adjustable side mirrors.

Safety-wise, the Limo Green comes standard with anti-lock braking, dual front airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, a rear-view parking camera, stability control, traction control, and tire pressure monitoring.

    Peppy powertrain, considerable range

Another key strength of the VinFast Limo Green is its powertrain. Specifically, it uses a single permanent-magnet synchronous motor capable of producing up to 201 horsepower and 280 Newton-meters of torque

With those output figures, the VinFast Limo Green is certainly more powerful compared to its similarly priced internal combustion engine counterparts.

Regarding range, the model can cover up to 450 kilometers (km) from a single full charge, according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). Topping up the vehicle can be done via a direct current (DC) CCS2 port that can raise its state-of-charge from 10-70 percent in just 30 minutes.

Similar to other EVs in the market right now, the Limo Green also has regenerative braking and vehicle-to-load functionality of up to 3.3 kilowatts (kW).

Ensuring ride quality and handling for the MPV is a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension. Stopping power for the model, meanwhile, is handled by front and rear discs.

    Cons

Not much in the way of high-tech features

Considering its highly accessible price, VinFast has opted to spare the Limo Green of high-tech features and systems.

For one thing, the model doesn’t come with any form of advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS). This, of course, might be a deal breaker for those with preconceived expectations of EVs as “high-tech cars.” On a more practical note, it might also deter people who feel they need ADAS for daily driving, which is completely understandable given the chaotic traffic in the Philippine setting.

As mentioned above, the interior amenities of the Limo Green are quite decent. Then again, it appears to lack Apple CarPlay and Android Auto - two features that might be non-negotiable for some car buyers.

Inversely, the VinFast Limo Green will be attractive to those wanting a no-nonsense product for their fleet. Having less high-tech stuff inside a car, after all, could mean that fewer things may break in the future. This, of course, tracks, since businesses, especially those ferrying people around all the time, tend to make heavy use of their cars. As such, cabin degradation is inevitable.

    Final thoughts

To sum it all up, the VinFast Limo Green is a good option for those looking for an all-electric fleet vehicle. It could also fit the bill as a spacious family car for those who do not mind the lack of onboard technologies.

The vehicle, as pointed out several times above, is highly affordable. For reference, it costs P1.099 million with a battery subscription and P1.399 million without one. Each purchase also includes a portable charger that can be used with ordinary household outlets for trickle overnight charging.

Do note, however, that many of what was described on this feature story is based on the vehicle’s on-paper specs. So, if you’re the type who’s serious bout getting the Limo Green, we highly encourage you to give it a test drive first.
