VinFast VF 6: 4 reasons to buy

Electric vehicle specialist VinFast has brought in the all-new VF 6 at this year’s Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). It slots in between the VF 5 and VF 7 in terms of size; as such, it offers a good balance of driveability and interior space. It is also priced reasonably well in the Philippine market at P1.419 million for the entry-level Eco, and P1.61 million for the top-spec Plus. 

The VinFast VF 6, however, faces strong all-electric crossover rivals in the market within the same price point. One, of course, is the BYD Atto 3. There’s also the Lynk & Co 02. 

So, does the VF 6 have excellent characteristics that will make it more appealing to buyers? Or rather, why would you even consider buying a VF 6?

Peppy, good range

While it was designed as a sensible and practical ride, the VinFast VF 6 still has charms when it comes to performance. 

Specifically, the single motor setup aboard the VF 6 Plus can generate up to 201 horsepower and 310 Newton-meters of torque. Moreover, the all-electric crossover can cover up to 480 kilometers (km), according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). 

Its maximum power and torque output mean effortless cruising and the occasional powerful overtake on highways. And, if the driver of the VF 6 wants to go for a bit of fun, the model also has instantaneous torque as it is a fully-electric vehicle, after all. 

Supporting the all-electric crossover’s powertrain is a regenerative braking system, three selectable drive models (normal, sport, economy), as well as a fast charging capability that can increase its state-of-charge from 10-70 percent in just 25 minutes. 

For ride quality and stability, the VinFast-made crossover relies on a front MacPherson strut suspension and a rear “control blade” suspension system. Stopping power for the model is provided by front and rear disc brakes. 

Numerous amenities

The VinFast VF 6 boasts a five-seater interior layout with leather-upholstered seats and an automatic dual-zone climate control system with an air-quality sensor and an air ionizer. 

Furthermore, the driver of the VinFast model has access to a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an electronic parking brake, keyless entry, a keyless starting system, a heads-up display, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. 

Taking charge of the model’s on-board entertainment and navigation is a 12.9-inch touchscreen headunit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Additionally, the vehicle comes fitted with a WiFi management feature, an eSIM management system, and a satellite view mode for its navigation system. Sound, meanwhile, is fed into the VF 6’s cabin by a six-piece speaker set with tweeters. 

The model’s exterior, while stylish, was also designed to provide driving convenience, thanks to its LED lighting fixtures with daytime running lamps and automatic headlamps, power-folding and heated side mirrors, as well as its UV-protected acoustic laminated windshield. Completing the appearance of the VF 6 is a set of 19-inch alloy wheels. 

Loads of safety gear

Buyers who prefer vehicles equipped with extensive safety features will also have a lot to look forward to in the VinFast VF 6. 

Its basic kit is quite comprehensive, consisting of eight airbags, anti-lock braking, acoustic vehicle alert for pedestrians, stability control, traction control, hill-start assist, roll-over mitigation, a 360-degree camera, tire pressure monitoring, ISOFIX, and an engine immobilizer. 

The aforementioned are supported by several advanced driver-assist systems, such as:

The VinFast VF 6 also gets points for its strong warranty packages. Specific to its battery is a 10-year, or 200,000 km warranty, whichever comes first. Upon purchase, the VF 6 likewise comes with a vehicle warranty spanning seven years, or 160,000 km, whichever comes first. 

A dime a dozen other nameplates in the Philippines also get warranty packages, but the one VinFast PH offers for the VF 6 is notably longer than most.

Overall, the VinFast VF 6 strikes a good balance between performance, features, and price. In addition, savvy buyers will definitely like its warranty packages. On the other hand, first-time EV adopters will appreciate its considerable all-electric range. 

Sounds good so far, but as we always say, a test drive is a must when buying a car. Doing so, after all, may result in fewer or no regrets in the end.
