Volvo EX30: stylish, sustainable interior

The Volvo EX30 made its debut yesterday, bolstering the brand’s electrified lineup here in the Philippines.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the size of the Volvo EX30's central display unit?

The central display unit of the Volvo EX30 measures 12.3 inches.
  • What material is used for the upholstery on the Volvo EX30?

Volvo used Nordico material for the EX30's upholstery.
  • While others will be impressed with its fully electric powertrain, some may excited with its stylish, sustainable, and cleverly designed interior.

So, for those who are looking for an eye-catching vehicle with an eco-friendly cabin, here is a quick look at what one can find inside the Volvo EX30.

    Sustainable upholstery

The Volvo EX30 is fitted with seats made from sustainable materials.

According to the local wing of the Swedish car brand, the electric crossover offers would-be owners seats that are swathed in textile and Nordico material.

For the uninitiated, Nordico is a synthetic leather alternative and uses recycled materials and other biological matter. These include recycled polyester from PET bottles and PVC made from bio-attributed material from Swedish and Finnish forests.

Instead of using authentic animal hide, Volvo Cars went with a more animal-friendly option, which still allows passengers to enjoy a plush feel without the guilt.

    Aesthetic seats

And while we’re still on the topic of seats, we would like to point out how stylishly aesthetic the front seats of the Volvo EX30 are.

Compared to those found on regular crossovers, the seats installed on the Volvo EX30 appear sleek and on fleek. The headrests in particular remind us of sporty racing seats, yet their thin, graceful, and minimalist design gives them an air of opulence befitting the upmarket nature of the model.

They also have decent bolstering, so as to keep the driver and the front passenger snugly in place since the crossover is capable of instantly accelerating due to its all-electric powertrain.

Speaking of which, below are the power figures of the Volvo EX30:

    Maximum power (in hp) 272
    Maximum torque (in Nm) 343
    Maximum range (in km) 475

It is also worth pointing out that the seats at the front have lumbar support so the driver and the passenger riding shotgun will not have to worry about back pain caused by taking on an improper sitting position.

    Centralized controls

Carmakers putting controls and displays at the center of the vehicle is nothing new. So, while driving the Volvo EX30 might take some getting used to, it will not negatively impact the overall experience of sitting behind its wheel.

In line with simplifying the interior of the all-electric crossover, Volvo Cars integrated the instrument cluster of the vehicle into its 12.3-inch vertical central display.

To avoid confusion, the company positioned relevant gauges — such as the speedometer — at the top part of the screen. Infotainment-based features such as navigation and audio have been placed from the center down.

Pairing the vehicle to one’s smartphone to use applications like Google Maps and Spotify can be done wirelessly. As standard, the Volvo EX30 comes out of the factory wireless Apple Carplay- and Android Auto-ready.

Finally, controls for all four windows can be found on the center console of the vehicle.

    Storage options galore

The Volvo EX30 — having been designed by Swedes — comes packed with practical storage options.

For example, the center armrest has a sliding drawer, while a glove box compartment can be found under the center display screen. Further, the charging pad to wirelessly juice up smartphones can cradle handheld devices so they neatly remain in place.

On the lower floor of the tunnel is a small compartment, which can accommodate various items, such as the ones we have written below:

    • Cards
    • IDs

At the back of the central armrest is a cubby for smartphones when plugged into the available charging ports above it. Otherwise, cellular phones, tablets, and small laptops can be stowed away in dedicated pockets found behind the driver’s and front passenger’s seats.

Lastly, a storage box below the center armrest is found for keeping different items. This storage box can be removed and cleaned — which makes it perfect for holding candy and snack wrappers as well as used tissue papers.

    Final thoughts

The Volvo EX30 can help Filipino car buyers further elevate their definition of sustainable mobility. Not only does it use an emissions-free powertrain system but some of its interior components also use eco-friendly materials.
