10 million sales for Lexus

MANILA: It was the month of January in 1989 when Lexus put its feet in the automobile industry at the North American International Auto Show. While the brand started with a product lineup which consisted of two cars, Toyota’s subsidiary now has one of the widest range of vehicles in the world.

The success of Lexus can be determined by looking at the sales numbers it racked up last year. After trading 668,515 vehicles in the year 2017, Lexus took off and broke all its record by selling 698,330 cars in 2018.

Both the LS 400 and ES 250, which are now 30 years old were the first two cars offered by Lexus. The brand started with the US marketed and then slowly and steadily conquered Europe followed by other parts of the world. Making on the success, Lexus then launched more models like the GS and then LX, RX, and IS. As a matter of fact, all these models are still part of the Lexus lineup.

In the early 2000s, Lexus started making its mark across the globe, and the GX, which was based on the Land Cruiser Prado was launched. As soon as Toyota started introducing hybrid vehicles, Lexus also made its entry in the hybrid market. What is very interesting is that until 2005, Lexus was not available in Japan. The Filipinos got their hand on the Lexus vehicle only by 2009 with products like LX, IS, GS, ES, LS, RX, and GX making their way to the Filipino shores.

Starting off with 2 cars, the Lexus banner now has 14 models in its lineup which includes sedans, SUVs, and more. The best part is that most of the vehicles in the Lexus lineup are equipped with hybrid technology. We expect the brand Lexus to only grow bigger in the coming years.
