2017 Kia Rio Sedan revealed
MANILA: After being staged at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, the 2017 Kia Rio sedan has been finally revealed in the Australian market. Considering the design of the B-Segment sedan, it is quite similar to its hatchback counterpart. Just like the Rio hatchback, the sedan version is also spiced up with advanced features.
The roofline of the 2017 Kia Rio sedan is more upright than the hatchback version while the rear set of doors are refreshed with new styling. In addition to this, the doors are also finished with a black panel to give it a faux like third side window. At the rear, the 2017 Rio sedan gets slim taillights and the trunk features a lip that is integrated into the metal. The front end of the sedan is similar to the previous version and no significant changes are done. The sedan continues to feature signature ‘Tiger Nose’ grille, bi-function projectors, and a new U-shaped LED daytime running lights.
The fog lights are now positioned slightly outwards within the front bumper, which grants a slightly wide stance to the B-segment sedan. In the cabin, the design elements are similar to the hatchback version. At the center, a wraparound dashboard, trapezoidal aircon vents, and a large touchscreen can be found while the center console is tilted towards the driver to improve the ergonomics. A new infotainment system, the ‘Floating HMI’ is also equipped along with a high-resolution touchscreen that caters to the audio, navigation and connectivity requirements.
Under the hood, the company has revealed information about only one engine option which is a 1.6-litre Gamma GDI engine that delivers 130 PS maximum power and 161 Nm peak torque. It is expected that the engine options offered in the hatchback will be also offered in the sedan segment. The options include Kappa three-cylinder, 1.0-litre turbo, four-cylinder Kappa 1.2-litre, Gamma 1.4-litre and U-Line 1.4-litre turbo diesel.
Let’s see when we get the updated 2017 Kia Rio sedan in the Philippines market.
