New year, new ride: Kia EV5

Kia Philippines, under the stewardship of Ayala’s ACMobility, announced the arrival of the Kia EV5 sometime last year

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What powers the Kia EV5?

The Kia EV5 uses a single or dual electric motor setup, depending on the variant.
  • How much power does it make?

    It does about 217-308 horses.
  • On that note, tech-savvy car buyers who are in the market for a brand-new electric vehicle (EV) would be excited for the Kia EV5 as it is packed with a handful of niceties as well as a reliable powertrain, which is why it made our top cars to expect in 2026

At the time of writing, the Kia EV5 has been launched in Thailand, and we have been able to check out the specifications and available trims for the crossover, namely Earth, Air, and the GT-Line, which, in the author’s opinion, should have been called “Fire.”

Interested in seeing what the Kia EV5 has to offer? Let’s look at the available features of the electric model from Kia’s subsidiary from the Land of Smiles.

    Exterior

Outside, the Kia EV5 appears to be very futuristic, with a Geely EX5-looking front fascia that has sharp LED daytime running lights and headlamps. The entire fascia is clean, with the exception of the lower front bumper, which is robust-looking with plenty of vertical slats.

The side profile of the Kia EV5 dons an abundance of angular surfaces with flush door handles, likewise angular side mirrors, black pillars with some chrome inserts at the window’s underside, black wheel arches, and silver-hued side sill garnishes.

It also rides on alloy wheels sized from 18 to 19 inches with a two-tone design.

At the back, the Kia EV5 in Thailand has a discreet roof-mounted spoiler with an integrated light bar as its third brake lamp, a set of combination taillights that follow the same manner as the thin illumination at the fore, and a chunky bumper with some silver garnishes.

Overall, the Kia EV5 looks very modern and could be positioned to target the likes of young professionals, or enthusiasts who are looking for a compact crossover with a futuristic appeal.

    Interior

Inside, the Kia EV5 packs plenty of surprises for modern car buyers.

Presented to buyers as their personal space, reimagined, the cabin is built with trims that range from smoky black, white, ivory, beige, navy, and some greens. While customers will have to select a particular trim or variant to get the color they want, this allows buyers to achieve an interior theme that best suits their aesthetic needs.

A host of premium upholstery and soft-touch surfaces also await occupants.

Moving to the technological appointments, the Kia EV5 comes with a head-up display on the driver’s side of the windshield, an LCD thin-film transistor instrument cluster measuring 12.3 inches, and a similarly-sized infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Sound is sent to a Harman-Kardon-branded sound system, while smartphone charging can be done wirelessly.

    Other notable features include:

    • Automatic dual-zone climate control
    • Automatic-dimming rearview mirrors
    • Ambient lighting
    • Seats with massage function
    • Multi-purpose drawer with cooling function
    • Panoramic sunroof

As it stands, the Kia EV5 looks like a promising vehicle for people who like to crawl the malls or coffee shops during the weekend. It looks to present itself as a smart companion for people who want a ride to match their vibe.

    Powertrain

Here is where the Kia EV5 looks to edge the competition.

Propulsion from the electric crossover comes from either a front-wheel or all-wheel drive setup. The former makes 217 horsepower while the latter does about 308 horses. Torque-wise, the two-wheel drive models generate about 310 Newton-meters (Nm), while the all-wheel drive ones put out some 480 Nm of pulling power.

When it comes to range, they go anywhere from 490 to 665 kilometers, per the New European Driving Cycle rating.

    Pricing

With a wide range of variants, car buyers can pick the right EV that suits their budget.

At the time of publishing, the Kia EV5 in Thailand is priced from THB1.399 million to TBH1.899 million or approximately P2.629 million to P3.569 million.
