2018 Hyundai Grand Starex revealed
MANILA: One of the most spacious MPVs in the segment, the Grand Starex has been recently updated for 2018. Yes, the 2018 Hyundai Grand Starex has been revealed in South Korea with a majority of the changes restricted to the front profile. Even the cabin has been restyled to give it a modern appeal.
The updated version of Grand Starex features horizontally oriented slim headlights which complement the ‘Cascading Grille’ in an effective manner. The other changes of the front include restyled fog lights and reshaped bumper. The side profile is quite similar to the outgoing model with an introduction of 17-inch alloy wheels. The top-end variant (Urban) also gets projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, and LED taillights.
The overall dimensions of the MPV measure 5150 mm X 1920 mm X 1925 mm (L X W X H) with a wheelbase of 3200 mm wheelbase. The cabin is now more like of a car than a van with the introduction of advanced comfort and premium features. The changes include a new four-spoke steering wheel, new instrument gauges, and restyled gear lever. The 2018 Grand Starex has been also benefited with a new eight-inch ‘floating’ touchscreen infotainment system that comes with navigation. But, all these changes are restricted to the top-end model while the standard Grand Starex still features the old layout.
The seating capacity of top-spec Urban is 9 while the standard version will be able to accommodate either 11 or 12 people. Powering the 2018 Hyundai Grand Starex is a 2.5-litre CRDi turbo-diesel engine that is now Euro6 compliant and manages to deliver a maximum power output of 140 PS at 3600 rpm and peak torque of 353 Nm at 1500 - 2500 rpm. The engine is further mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. For improved power and torque figures, there is also a VGT equipped turbo-diesel that generates 175 PS of maximum power at 3600 rpm and 451 Nm of peak torque at 2000 - 2500 rpm.
Just like the outgoing model, 4WD will be optional. Other features include a softer suspension, hill-start assist, locking differential for 4WD models and better sound insulation. The rest of the safety features are carried from the previous version. The launch date of 2018 Grand Starex in the local market is still not clear but we expect it to see here by the end of Q1 2018.
