Hyundai Motor PH delivers 2 Elantra units to PNP

MANILA: Hyundai Motor Philippines Incorporated (HMPH) has formally turned over two Elantra vehicles to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

During the handover rites late last month, PNP leaders — namely Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez (acting chief), Police Major General Martin Defensor Jr. (director for logistics), and Police Brigadier General Roel Rodolfo (deputy director for logistics) — received the aforementioned cars from HMPH executives Jiho Son (president) and Cecil Capacete (managing director).

The turned over to the country’s police is made up of the internal combustion engine-powered GL STD as well as the hybrid electric version — both of which are modeled after the advanced systems used by the Korea National Police Agency.

In a statement, the Korean automaker’s arm in the country said that the initiative reaffirmed its support for the PNP in its thrust to enhance public safety and national security.

“These Elantra Patrol Cars are purpose-built to support the PNP’s vital mission of protecting the nation. This handover reflects Hyundai’s belief that mobility should evolve with the needs of modern law enforcement,” Son was quoted as saying.

“Hyundai is privileged to stand with the PNP as a partner in building safer and more progressive communities,” the firm’s top executive added.

Designed to secure safety and efficient operations of police personnel, the pair of Hyundai Elantra units released to are equipped with Elantra Hybrid Smart Patrol Car features made up of:

• Surround cameras
• Radar-based speed detection
• Intelligent plate recognition system

HMPH also stated that the technologies align with Hyundai’s global vision of “Progress for Humanity,” demonstrating the brand’s dedication to meaningful contributions to peace and order nationwide.

Powering the Hyundai Elantra GL is the 1.6-liter gasoline-fed engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that delivers 126 horsepower (hp) and 155 Newton-meters (Nm). On the other hand, the model’s HEV option has a hybrid mill composed of a 1.6-liter gasoline engine and electric motor paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. This combination produces a peak output of 142 horsepower and 147 Nm.

The base model variant rides on 15-inch alloys wrapped in 195/65 tires while the electrified version uses 16-inch wheels with bigger 205/55 tires.

Both cars are fitted with eight-inch touchscreen infotainment systems (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay-ready) and digital instrument clusters (either 4.2- or 10.25-inch).

Their safety and driver features include:

• Dual front airbags
• Anti-lock braking systems
• Electronic stability control
• Hill start assist
• Cruise control
