Toyota Tamaraw OMR to excite motorsport fans further in upcoming 2026 TGR PH Cup

MANILA: The race-prepped next-generation Tamaraw will have its first-ever official race at 12th Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Philippine Cup.

In a statement, the country’s leading automotive distributor shared that examples of the diesel-powered one-make race (OMR) car will be running the streets of Riverpark, Cavite as part of its efforts to bring the thrill of motorsports closer to Filipinos.

“It will be another thrilling year as we kick off a GRipping and GRitty season of the TGR Philippine Cup! By adding new playgrounds in Cavite and Batangas, it will surely make the hearts of all motorsports fans race,” Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) President Masando Hashimoto said.

“I recently tried out the Tamaraw OMR in a drift track in Pampanga and it really made me wow! I cannot wait for more people to experience what this car can do when pushed to its limits!” he added.

Tamaraw OMR specifications

It can be recalled that it was last month when TMP made available the Tamaraw OMR package to racing individuals and teams.

Previewed as a concept back in 2025, the Toyota Tamaraw had undergone continuous development that led to the race-ready version that is already being retailed to interested parties.

To note, the package for Toyota Tamaraw one-make race (OMR) car will be made up of: 

• Roll cage
• Bucket seats
• Kill switch
• Race-prepped braking system
• New tires and wheels
• Safety harnesses
• Upgraded leaf springs and coil springs 

The aforementioned setup will be slapped on a Tamaraw long wheelbase diesel-propelled trim. Its drivetrain will be the same spec as the one seen in all Toyota showrooms in the country.

While this is still a long shot compared to the OMR version, here’s how Toyota Tamaraw dressed up his unit.

Tamaraw sprint race participants

Those joining the Sprint Race under Team Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines are Hashimoto, Chenee Jimenez, Alex Lim (Banaweboy), Justin Buzzhype, Enzo Ison and Will Lucas.

They will go head-to-head with former Vios Cup champions from other top racing teams in the Philippines such as Iñigo Anton, Dominic Ochoa, Alain Alzona and Jesse Garcia.

Other models

The Toyota Tamaraw OMR will share the spotlight with its older sibling in the subcompact sedan, the Vios OMR.

Per TMP, a total of 30 racers will be on the tracks gunning for the top posts at the Sporting, Super Sporting, and Legacy categories using the famed race car under the Vios OMR Sprint Races.

Aside from that, the soon-to-be-launched Toyota vehicles such as the RAV4 and Urban Cruiser will be displayed at the event alongside the Toyota GR performance vehicles, as well as Lexus favorites.

Race event details

The event will take place on the 2.4-kilometer street track in Riverpark, General Trias, Cavite on March 13-15. Interested event goers can get their free passes at the event website.

Those who cannot go to the venue for the first race weekend may watch the competition live on Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines Facebook and Youtube pages. The live stream will start at 9AM.

In 2025, more than 12,000 spectators took part in the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup and enjoyed races and driving exhibitions, musical performances, vehicle displays, and more. It was also last year when TMP decided to hold the street races again — holding it in Bacoor, Cavite.

To recall, Hashimoto walked away unscathed from a crash in the second race weekend last year — which was also conducted in Cavite. Despite that, TMP’s chief managed to join the  TGR Philippine Cup winners’ circle.

Aside from the festivities, event goers can also have their hands on the sim racing rigs or score authentic GR merchandise.

Members of Toyota car clubs can also look forward to an exclusive track day where they can experience the streets of Riverpark with their vehicles.
