2019 Toyota Supra makes an appearance at Toyota Vios Racing Festival

We believe you had a ball if you went to the event. However, in case you didn’t turn up,

you missed more than you think. Wondering what? Well, Toyota invited a special guest at the event that caught everyone’s eye and was warmly welcomed. You’d have guessed it by the title of this story, right?

Yes, it was the 2019 Toyota GR Supra that thrilled the spectators, drivers, event organisers, and pretty much everyone at the round 1 of Toyota Vios Circuit Championship. The Toyota GR Supra brought to the event is the fifth generation (A90) model of the sports car and has made a return after 17 long years.

The GR in the title of the car stands for Gazoo Racing, which is the racing arm of Toyota. While we have already shouted out loud about it in the past but we’ll inform you once again that the newest iteration of the Toyota Supra takes its inspiration from the FT-1 concept car which also made an appearance at the 2016 Philippine International Motor Show in the month of September.

Powering the Toyota GR Supra is a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six motor that produces 340 horses. The transmission here is an eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters. According to Toyota, the GR Supra takes no more than 4.3 seconds in reaching to 100 kmph from a standstill.

Also, the new engine makes 10 hp more than the mill that powered the last-gen Supra. The GR Supra is a result of the Toyota-BMW partnership, just like the Toyota 86, which is a flower blossomed as a result of Toyota-Subaru partnership.

Interestingly, the GR Supra that made an appearance at the Toyota Vios Racing Festival was an Austrian made unit produced by Magna Steyr, a facility that also makes the BMW Z4. Also, Toyota Philippines recently released a teaser image on its official Facebook page announcing the not too far arrival of the Supra in the Philippines.
