2020 Hyundai Accent to come with a new engine

MANILA: It has not been too long since Hyundai introduced us all to the newest iteration of the Accent sedan, has it? But guess what? The Hyundai engineers were at work even after the launch of the refreshed Accent. The latest developments reveal that there will be a brand-new mill that will be sufficing the appetite of the 2020 Hyundai Accent.

The South Korean automaker recently introduced its latest powerhouse that features Continuously Variable Valve Duration or CVVD. Smartstream, which is the new four-cylinder lineup by Hyundai, has received its fair share of the new tech.

Hyundai will equip the 2020 Accent for the US market with the non-turbocharged version of the new engine. Compared to the current-gen 1.6-litre engine's mileage of 13.6 kmpl, the new engine is said to go in for 15.3 kilometres on a litre. Along with the Continuously Variable Valve Duration, there is also the Hyundai's new IVT (Intelligent Variable Transmission) that have contributed to the enhanced fuel efficiency. The IVT here is a kind continuously variable transmission.

The new engine on the 2020 Hyundai Accent for the US market makes 120 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 153 Nm. The same powerhouse in its turbocharged guise churns out a maximum power of 180 PS and 265 Nm of peak torque. We might see the non-turbocharged variant on the revamped Elantra, while the boosted motor may make its way on the Philippine-spec Sonata.

So, how does this revolutionary CVVD work? Well, unlike standard engines where valves can be opened or closed only at predefined rpm levels, the valves on the CVVD equipped engine can be adjusted continually depending on the engine load. In simplest of the words, you can say this engine is smarter than a conventional mill and controls the movement of its valves based on the situation instead of pre-programmed values.
