9th PIMS: Toyota PH to showcase electric kei van, bZ concept car

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) will showcase two vehicles at the ninth edition of the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS).

While the teased images posted on TMP’s official Facebook page are nothing more but silhouettes, their shapes suggest that the local wing of the Japanese carmaker could bring its concept electric kei van and the Toyota bZ4X (Beyond Zero) electric vehicle (EV) to the automotive expo.

Kayoibako concept

The Kayoibako concept EV van is geared towards flexibility and adaptability.

Per Toyota, the Japanese word kayoibako refers to “configurable shipping containers for safely and efficiently transporting parts and products between facilities.”

On that note, the small electric van offers customizable solutions that will suit the lifestyles and needs of various car buyers.

The Kayoibako concept also aligns with Toyota’s “Mobility for All” initiative, and allows designs that offer easier access for wheelchair users.

It was presented to the public at last year’s Japan Mobility Show.

Toyota bZ4X

The Toyota bZ4X — currently available in major markets like the United States (US) — is the marque’s first all-electric vehicle.

American car buyers can choose from two variants, XLE and Limited. Both US market models are equipped with an alternating current synchronous electric generator paired with a 71.4-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery.

In unison, the said setup delivers 201 horsepower to the front wheels with the all-wheel drive versions of the said variants pushing up to 214 horses. It has an estimated range of up to 405 kilometers per Toyoya’s US website.

PIMS 2024

This year’s PIMS — themed “Dare. Drive. The Future Redefined.” — will take place at the World Trade Center in Pasay City and will run from October 24-27, 2024.
