'Aerodynamic' 2023 Nio EC7 electric coupe SUV launched

MANILA: The EC7 — a new electric coupe SUV from Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Nio — was recently unveiled at the 2022 Nio Day event held in China in December.

Based on the automaker's most recent second-generation platform, the 2023 Nio EC7 promises to provide users with an experience that exceeds their expectations in terms of design, performance, comfort, intelligence, safety, and sustainability.

The 2023 Nio EC7's design strikes a mix between power and grace. This mid-sized flagship coupé SUV carries over Nio's high-performance DNA, which is distinguished by the most recent high-efficiency electric drive platform, and comes standard with smart air suspension.

The combination of a 180 kW high-efficiency permanent magnet motor with a 300 kW high-performance induction motor produces quick, powerful power while maintaining power continuity and minimal energy consumption. The EC7 accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in under 3.8 seconds and comes to a complete stop from 100 kilometers per hour in 33.9 meters.

It will have the lowest drag coefficient of any SUV in the world, coming in at 0.230, Nio boasted. For the first time in Nio's production vehicles, the active spoiler is standard on the 2023 Nio EC7, which enhances the aerodynamic efficiency of this coupe SUV. The active spoiler has two settings: Eco and Sport, which boost downforce while decreasing drag.

On top of the EV, the 1.94-m2 laminated glass on the panoramic glass roof of the 2023 Nio EC7 has noise reduction and UV protection. With the addition of the neutral dark gray hue, the flexible electrochromic (EC) technology now offers five levels of transmittance modification.

Matrix headlights with Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB) are a feature of the 2023 Nio EC7. The headlights can adapt and aim light beams more precisely while avoiding blinding other road users thanks to the addition of LiDAR, cameras, and millimeter-wave radars.

The 2023 Nio EC7 has the Digital System Banyan, which consists of Nio Adam, a super computing platform with compute power up to 1,016T enabled by four Nvidia Orin X CPUs, and Nio Aquila, a super sensing system equipped with 33 high-performance sensors, including LiDAR.

The Nio EC7, on the other hand, is equipped with PanoCinema, the world's first on-board artificial intelligence (AI) assistant, NOMI, a 7.1.4 immersive sound system with Dolby Atmos, waterfall ambient lighting, and a 12.8-inch AMOLED central control panel. According to Nio, the vehicle offers a "holistic immersive digital space" for consumers because the cockpit is naturally intended for AR and VR devices.

From the first half of 2023, Power Swap Pilot for Highway will be gradually made available. When Navigate on Pilot is enabled, the vehicle can automatically plan the route for battery swap, navigate to the Power Swap station, complete the battery swap and automatically drive out of the service area and back to the highway.

The 500kW ultra-fast Power Charger and the third-generation Power Swap station have both been unveiled at Nio Day. In comparison to the second-generation Power Swap station, the third-generation Power Swap station achieves more effective vehicle-station coordination and can execute up to 408 swaps every day.

The charger is compatible with the Automatic Summon & Change feature, which enables the station to communicate with the vehicle and navigate it automatically to complete the swap. Furthermore, it takes just 20 minutes to charge the 100kWh battery pack from 10% to 80% with a maximum current of 660A and a maximum output of 500kW.

Nio Day, the annual user meeting, is both an iconic event that showcases the Chinese carmaker's dedication to being a user company and the most thorough presentation of the Nio community. On Nio Day, users take center stage in every way. This year, more than 95,000 users of the Nio community chose Hefei as the host city from a list of 10 nominees.

Global smart electric car manufacturer Nio was established in 2014. In addition to production, sales, and service facilities, it has developed R&D centers in a number of locations, including Shanghai, Hefei, Beijing, Nanjing, San Jose, Munich, Oxford, and Oslo. In China, the brand first established a user service network with full national coverage, then starting in 2021, it entered the international market.

Pre-orders for the 2023 Nio EC7 have been accepted on the NIO app in China, and deliveries are scheduled to begin there in May 2023.
