All-new Genesis G80 design previewed online

MANILA: Genesis, the luxury line of Hyundai, is stoking the fervor of enthusiasts with a simple sneak-peek of the computer rendering of the all-new G80 exterior, which sports a unique interpretation of the brand’s latest design philosophy "Athletic Elegance."

Those two words, an oxymoron, also allow Genesis to combine the opposing characteristics of both words to create the inimitable look of the rear-wheel-drive midsize luxury sedan.

"The Genesis design DNA begins from the logo itself. The crest of the logo becomes the Crest Grille and the two lines of the wings become the Quadlamps. In other words, the design starts with the brand, and design is the brand," said Luc Donckerwolke, executive vice president and chief design officer of Hyundai Motor Group.

Its signature elements are the crest grille and the two lines of the quadlamps that circumvent all sides of the vehicle.

The sweeping parabolic line appears very prominently when viewed from the side, which accentuates the coupe-like roofline.

Large 20-inch wheels are highlighted by athletic lines of the front and rear fenders, while the tail is emphasized by another set of quadlamps and the horseshoe-shaped negative surface of the decklid.

A quick look inside shows a deconstructed dashboard sporting a 14.5-inch infotainment screen, slim air vents, and thin A-pillars and rearview mirrors to produce a relaxed and panoramic view for the driver.

“A relationship begins at first sight. The distinctive ‘two lines’ signature of the Quadlamps presents a clear and unique Genesis identity within seconds. No matter what body type, sedan or SUV, the Quadlamps and Athletic Elegance design language present a distinctive brand identity, and this will enable Genesis to offer a fresh alternative within the existing luxury space. Inside, the 'Beauty of White Space’ theme represents our journey to achieve the perfect balance between personal space and state-of-the-art technology. We question the status quo. Technology should not dominate and only present itself when necessary. This is the new luxury experience our Genesis customers expect in today’s high-end user experience,” said senior vice president and head of Genesis design Sang Yup Lee, 

The all-new G80 will debut this month and features a new design, platform, powertrains and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
