All-new Honda HR-V slated for US launch this year

MANILA: American Honda has released teaser images of the 2023 HR-V. While the third-generation HR-V has been launched in other markets, the US will get a different version of subcompact crossover this year, the carmaker announced. 

At the moment, Honda has yet to elaborate on the differences of the US-spec HR-V against its global counterpart. American Honda said in a statement that its "new HR-V will be designed to meet the distinct needs of US customers." 

In Honda's US lineup, the 2023 HR-V will reportedly be the entry-level offering alongside the hatchback version of the all-new Civic. The Jazz/Fit will be phased-out in the US. 

Based on the teaser images, the US-market 2023 HR-V (main photo and below) wears a comparatively different design, featuring bigger headlamps and a blacked-out, angular grille that is set lower in the fascia.

On the side, a window on the C-pillar is added to the American HR-V, while its tail lights are now made in two pieces, in contrast to the global HR-V's (below) one piece design. 

American Honda said it "will have more information to share regarding the... Honda HR-V designed for the US market closer to launch." Given the statement, the carmaker has not yet revealed the technical specifications or interior photos of the 2023 HR-V. 

As for the global HR-V, it is powered by e:Hev hybrid technology, which comprised of two compact electric motors connected to a 1.5-liter i-VTEC petrol engine. 

 

In terms of styling, Honda described the global HR-V's as "coupe-inspired" with slim windows and flush rear door handles. Ground clearance is up by 10 millimeters, and roof height is trimmed by 20 millimeters compared to the previous HR-V (which is still on sale here in the Philippines). 

Inside, the global HR-V features "Magic Seat" seating configurations, which offers both fold-flat or flip-up seat flexibility, depending on load space required.

The Honda Sensing safety kit is also fitted to the global HR-V. The Honda Sensing includes Pedestrian Collision Mitigation Steering System and Collision Mitigation Brake System (CMBS). Upon detecting oncoming vehicles crossing the path of the car, including cyclists and motorcycles, CMBS applies the brakes to avoid collision.
