All-new Kia Niro seen to ease shift to sustainable mobility

MANILA: The Kia Niro crossover has been completely revamped to fulfill the complex and diversified needs of today's environmentally concerned car buyers. Three cutting-edge electrified powertrains, environmentally friendly interior materials, and superb safety performance guarantee that the all-new version exceeds customer expectations. Kia's expanding eco-friendly lineup, which will be comprised of 14 battery electric vehicle (BEV) models by 2027, includes the new Niro.

With a vast range of comparable models on offer, the C-CUV market is one of the most competitive. The all-new Niro exemplifies Kia's innovative approach to the classic CUV, with essential features that set it apart in a crowded sector. The new Niro is a safe, family-friendly vehicle with good economic and environmental credentials, which will motivate many people to take a significant first step toward electrification.

The all-new Niro eases the shift to sustainable mobility by offering a variety of low- and zero-emission powertrain options, including hybrid electric (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and BEV. Kia's Smartstream 1.6-liter GDI gasoline engine is used in the HEV and PHEV variants. The Niro combines environmental and practical benefits with a 463-kilometer electric-only range.

In a statement, Kia Europe President Jason Jeong said, “Kia has redesigned the Niro to provide people with a clearer path to clean mobility. The range of eco-friendly powertrains will encourage even the most hesitant customers to make the switch to more sustainable forms of movement. The already popular Niro benefits from Kia’s latest tech advancements and can meet the mobility needs of all drivers, attracting new people to the brand. The current Niro family is Kia’s third best-seller, and the new version will further extend Niro’s position as a volume model within the Kia portfolio and help accelerate Kia’s global sales of eco-friendly vehicles to two million units in 2030.”

The Niro's clean-sheet makeover is based on Kia's third-generation "K" platform. It measures 4,420mm long, 1,825mm wide, and up to 1,570mm high. The 2,720mm wheelbase and improved cabin design proportions provide best-in-class interior space and storage capacity.

Recycled materials with a premium effect surrounding the cabin, enhancing the interior space and emphasizing Niro's environmental credentials. To offer a distraction-free yet straightforward user experience, the dashboard and driver controls have limited clutter and clean lines. A head-up display (HUD) system improves safety and convenience while driving, and a suite of innovative safety features gives this family-friendly crossover the most up-to-date protection.

The second-generation Niro comes standard with Kia's DriveWise intelligence Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which work to minimize potential road dangers and provide peace of mind to all occupants. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) advises and stops the vehicle in the event of a possible collision with other road users or pedestrians, while Junction Turning and Junction Crossing provide an additional layer of protection when dealing with turns and even stop the vehicle when there is traffic crossing from the left or right. These are just two of the several safety features incorporated in Kia's DriveWise technology.

Every feature on the all-new Niro has been carefully selected to provide the most value to customers. “Niro currently occupies an important position in the Kia line-up, providing an accessible electrified model at volume,” Jeong added. “It is a crucial model for Kia, and therefore it was a natural progression that, following our re-brand, Niro also received a re-brand of its own. The all-new Niro will offer existing customers the Kia heritage they value while also broadening the brand’s appeal to new environmentally conscious buyers.”
