But what can the all-new Toyota Urban Cruiser offer its customers? Here’s what you need to know about the battery-electric-propelled small crossover from the leading automotive distributor in eight photos.
Vehicle specifications
On paper, the all-new Toyota Urban Cruiser measures 4,285 millimeters (mm) long, 1,800 mm wide, and 1,635 mm tall — with a 180-mm ground clearance and a 2,700-mm wheelbase.
Given these measurements, this battery electric vehicle is an ideal city slicker as it can squeeze through tight traffic. Meanwhile, cabin space may be a bit cramped for those who are six feet tall.
Up front, the vehicle features a hammerhead-like front fascia thanks to slim LED headlamps that flank the upper gloss-black grille. Down below, a fluted chin carries the black lower grille and vents that direct air to the front wheels.
On its sides are plastic door moldings that connect the wheel arches, which match the chunky lines and body-colored side mirrors. The absence of the bridge-type roof rails hint that it is truly meant for traversing urban territories.
At the back, it boasts modern-looking taillamps connected by a black light bar, a spoiler with a third brake lamp, and a shark-fin antenna. However, the black plastic rear bumper is fitted with reflectors.
Inside the vehicle’s five-seater cabin is a rich mix of black and brown portions (synthetic leather and fabric), with silver and piano-black plastic surfaces. The driver has an eight-way power-adjustable seat while the front passenger gets a four-way manual type.
The multi-function steering wheel features switches for vehicle audio, display, voice, cruise control, and lane keep assist functionality.
Moreover, the model’s 10.1-inch infotainment display (which is connected to a slightly larger digital gauge cluster) is paired with a nine-speaker JBL sound system that ensures crisp audio. Also, the bit has a wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
With the rear seats folded, the all-new Toyota Urban Cruiser can haul up to 570 liters of cargo.
Other creature comforts that can be found in the vehicle are the wireless charging dock, a pair of Types A and C ports, a 12-volt accessory outlet, electronic parking brake (with brake hold), single-zone air-conditioning system, keyless entry, and push-start ignition.
Powering the vehicle is a single motor in front-wheel-drive layout. Per Toyota, this mill can dish out 171 horses, and 193 Newton-meters of torque. It also offers four drive modes namely:
- Eco
- Sport
- Normal
- Snow
The mill gets its energy from the 61-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery that offers a range of up to 475 kilometers. Juicing up this model is easy as it comes with Type 2 and CCS2 ports.
Additionally, its 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels (shod in 225/55 tires) carry ventilated discs while the MacPherson struts at the front and three-link suspensions at the rear absorb road imperfections while guaranteeing stability and controllability.
The all-new Urban Cruiser is slapped with numerous Toyota Safety Sense driver-assistive technologies such as:
- Pre-collision system
- Automatic high beam
- Adaptive high beam
- Lane keeping assist
- Lane departure alert
- Adaptive cruise control
These are complemented by the standard emergency brake signal, anti-lock brake system, vehicle stability control, hill-start assist control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, rearview camera, and panoramic view monitor.
Available in a single trim for now (but can be had in Grandeur Grey, Splendid Silver, Arctic White, Land Breeze Green, and Celestial Blue tones), the pricing of the all-new Toyota Urban Cruiser is currently at P2.135 million.
