Aston Martin Vantage S becomes official F1 safety car

MANILA: The Aston Martin Vantage S is now the official FIA safety car of Formula One. The high-performance “S” trim of the famed nameplate made its debut in the said role during the Dutch Grand Prix held at Circuit Zandvoort in the Netherlands last weekend. 

To function well in its new role, the Aston Martin Vantage S was equipped with notable upgrades, including a rear deck spoiler and an FIA-approved lightbar. Per the Gaydon-based carmaker, the said parts enable the Vantage S to lead the world’s fastest racing cars efficiently. 

As standard, however, the said model, Aston Martin shared, will face no issues with regard to on-track performance thanks to its hand-built 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. At maximum, the said eight-cylinder engine has the following maximum horsepower and torque outputs:

Peak horsepower	670
Peak torque (in Newton-meters)	800

With the said output figures, the Aston Martin Vantage S is capable of accelerating from zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in just 3.4 seconds. It also has a top speed of 325 kph. 

Interestingly, the Aston Martin Vantage S safety car also features the same colors worn by the Formula One Aston Martin Aramco Team cars. 

“Vantage S represents the peak of performance for the model that is the beating heart of the Aston Martin brand,” Global Marketing Director for Aston Martin Alex Long said.

To note, the Aston Martin Vantage S safety car works alongside the Aston Martin DBX707, which currently functions as Formula One’s official FIA medical car.
