Aston Martin Vulcan gets ready for its first-ever racing competition
MANILA: It is hard to believe that the track-only Aston Martin has never participated in a race on the full circuit. There were only 24 units produced, which got delivered to the respective customers and the AMR Pro was never made as per a racing competition. And customers who owned it did not want to race their prized positions.
The day is finally here when the Vulcan will hit the track. It will be at the third Aston Martin Le Mans Racing Festival on the full circuit at La Sarthe which is scheduled to take place on June 16, 2018. A total of 38 Aston Martins will take part in the race. One of the Vulcans will be driven by the former Le Mans winner Martin Brundle who will be accompanied by the Olympic gold medal winner Sir Chris Hoy.
The two Aston Martin Vulcans will be up against each other before the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The AMR Pro houses a 7.0-litre V12 petrol engine that produces 831 PS of power and 4000 Nm of torque, which is 20.2 PS and 850 Nm more than the regular car.
The Vulcan will be up against the cars like the GT1-spec Aston Martin DBR9s, GT3s, Vantage GT2s and GT4s and the Vantage GTE. The CEO of Aston Martin, Andy Palmer, and the ‘Bake-Off’ television anchor Paul Hollywood will be driving one of the Vantage GT4s. While one of the Vantage GT3s will be driven by the managing director of Aston Martin Racing John Gaw and the team owner Jan Struve.
Andy Palmer, the CEO of Aston Martin said, “Having taken part in this event in 2015, I can say first-hand it will be a tremendous experience. Moreover, this is a wonderful celebration of all that Aston Martin Racing has achieved since we returned to the sport as a manufacturer. To be able to display so many different iconic Aston Martin racing cars, as well as the stunning Vulcan, in front of 250,000 fans is a testament to the durability of our brand.”
