Ativ to expand Toyota Motor PH lineup 'soon'

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) will further expand its lineup soon by introducing the Ativ nameplate, a high-ranking official confirmed.

In an exclusive interview, TMP First Vice President of Sales Operations Elijah Sue Marcial shared that the company is already in its planning stage of bringing the aforementioned in the country — given the growing demand for hybrid models locally.

“We see that there is demand for more HEV vehicles. Thus, we are planning to introduce the Ativ soon. We'll share details once available,” Marcial told Zigwheels Philippines.

The said possibility was shared after Toyota Motor Thailand launched the latest version of its locally-retailed Yaris Ativ, the company’s subcompact sedan offering in the Land of Smiles.

With that, the upcoming nameplate might serve as the Toyota Vios’ new-energy-vehicle counterpart just like the Zenix is to the Innova.

Vehicle specifications

In Thailand, the model is being offered in two hybrid variants namely:

• Premium
• GR Sport

Both trims are equipped with a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder, in-line double overhead cam, 16-valve, hybrid engine with dual variable valve timing with intelligence technology (2NR-VEX) — combined with a permanent magnet synchronous motor and 0.76 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion energy bank.

The said mill has the capacity to dish out the following numbers:

Maximum output (in horsepower)	111
Peak torque (in Newton-meters)	121

Power is sent to the front wheels via an electronic-continuous variable transmission. This also allows the car to do 29.4-kilometers-per-liter fuel consumption based on a test following R101 standards.

Per Toyota Motor Thailand, the Toyota Yaris Ativ’s Premium option is packed with the following features and amenities:

• Dark chrome upper grille and metallic grey lower grille
• 16-inch alloy wheels
• 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity
• Wireless charger

Meanwhile, the model’s GR Sport variation boasts:

• Newly designed front grille featuring the GR logo and a full GR-S body kit (front bumper skirt, side skirt set, rear bumper skirt and rear spoiler)
• 17-inch alloy wheels
• Black roof and power-adjustable side mirrors with LED turn signals and automatic folding
• Black synthetic leather seats with GR logo
• Specially tuned suspension and Electric Power Steering
