MANILA: The BMW M Team WRT is set to field the latest version of the M Hybrid V8 hypercar for the first time ever at the upcoming IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IMSA series) official sanctioned test run this weekend.

The new headlamps of the BMW M Hybrid V8 are in preparation for IMSA Series night races and as a homage to current BMW M race cars.Two examples of the model are being prepared for the IMSA Series 2026 season. The BMW hypercar is also set to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC).
“I am very excited that we can present and test the update of our BMW M Hybrid V8 at Daytona for the first time in the IMSA environment. The new design and headlights not only look spectacular but are also intended to further optimise performance,” Head of BMW M Motorsport Andras Roos said.

The time we have before the 24-hour race at the end of January will be used as effectively as possible to prepare both the cars with their updates and BMW M Team WRT for their first season highlight,” Roos added.

To note, the latest iteration of the hypercar has been undergoing tests throughout the year, and this weekend marks its official debut in the IMSA Series. It will be running five test sessions at the Daytona International Speedway, while equipped with new headlamps that will enable it to compete in the IMSA Series’ several night races.
Per BMW M’s official website, the M Hybrid V8 Hypercar is propelled by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo eight-cylinder mill paired with a rear-mounted Bosch electric motor. Its gasoline unit alone can generate up to 640 horsepower (hp) and 650 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque, while its electric motor can put out 67 hp.
Photo from BMWOther noteworthy components of the BMW M Hybrid V8 hypercar include a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, a seven-speed sequential manual transmission, Brembo brake systems, and a set of OZ one-piece forged alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin slicks.
As mentioned above, the latest additions to the hypercar are a pair of new headlamps with yellow accents. These pay homage to the current generation of BMW M Motorsport race cars, and they will enable the M Hybrid V8 to compete in the night races under the IMSA Series and the FIA WEC. It also received the BMW Iconic Glow - a lighting accent that wraps around the car’s kidney grille and other choice sections of the high-performance Bimmer.
