MANILA: Photos of a futuristic-looking subcompact had just surfaced online. The four-seat hatchback has a sporty, almost alien design, and flashy two-tone color. Based on the leaked photos, this could very well be the 2020 Toyota Yaris.

Toyota hasn’t confirmed it yet. But these are photos of an unmasked vehicle, so everything is in plain sight. This includes the silver Toyota logo, which can be seen right above a nameplate that reads “YARIS” on both the front and rear end.

In spite of its radical look, the rumored fifth-generation Yaris still has a striking resemblance to the 2019 Toyota Yaris. Both are subcompact hatchbacks with massive low-lying grills, protruding tail lamps, and sharp lines, giving it that sporty and youthful vibe.

The new Yaris seems to have kept these design elements, albeit with some changes that make it look out-of-this-world. It now has a gaping grille, unswept LED headlamps, an aggressive front bumper, and curvier edges.

The body has an electric blue paint job in contrast to the black roof and car windows. So, expect two-tone color options in the upcoming model.

Leaked photos of the 2020 Toyota Yaris also suggest it has a wider and lower chassis, larger windows, and a more rounded roof than the previous generation. Word has it that it’s because of the TNGA GA-B platform, otherwise known as Toyota New Global Architecture B-Segment.

Toyota introduced its new platform last September. The GA-B platform promises larger interiors, improved steering, and better suspension for subcompact vehicles. During its unveiling, the automaker said they would integrate the platform into future models. With this, the new Toyota Yaris could be the first subcompact featuring the platform.

It seemed like yesterday when Toyota launched everyone’s favorite mid-sized sedan, the 2019 Toyota Vios. Since Vios is a subcompact, there’s a chance that it might adopt the GA-B platform for its next generation.

The all-new Toyota Yaris will be officially unveiled at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show later this month.
