Chevrolet Camaro to Go topless in Its 2016 Avatar

MANILA: US automotive giant Chevrolet has revealed the new iteration of its highly successful muscle car, the Camaro. Talking point of this refresh is a fully automated roof that can open or close at speeds up to 48 km/h.

The roof is powered by an electro-hydraulic system and has a multilayered construction for dampening road noise. Moreover, acoustic and thermal barriers, along with a hard tonneau cover that automatically covers the folded top provide an edge to the Camaro, in comparison to its direct competitors.

"From the beginning, the Camaro's architecture was developed to incorporate a convertible with uncompromised driving dynamics," said Al Oppenheiser, Chief Engineer at Chevrolet. "Customers will appreciate what they don't feel: quivers, cowl shake or an under-damped chassis typically found in a four-seat convertible."

The car is equipped with a stiffer yet lighter structure that helps to reduce weight by a whopping 91kgs as compared to its previous version. The engine line-up will remain unchanged, and will be similar to the three engine options offered with the coupe: a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo with 279 PS and 400 Nm of torque, a 3.6-liter direct injection V6 with modular displacement that delivers 340 PS and 385 Nm and a 6.2-liter V8 that generates 461 PS and 617 Nm of torque.

The Camaro Convertible is expected to be launched in early 2016.
