Chevrolet Spark EV production stops
MANILA: Chevrolet Philippines is gearing to introduce the 2017 Chevrolet Spark in the country while at the global level, Spark EV production has been stopped. The last lot of Spark EV came out from the production unit in the summer of 2016. With Spark EV production coming to halt, it is not that there will be no EV in the company’s lineup. The position of Chevrolet Spark EV will be taken by Bolt EV.
Chevrolet Spark EV was first introduced in 2013 with a range of 132 kms and was limited to the states of California and Oregon. In 2015, a third state, Maryland was also added. In its small journey, Chevrolet sold only 7,400 units of Spark EV. Even the price slash did not help the company in improving the sales of this EV and now, finally the company has stopped its production.
General Motors will be releasing the first lot of Bolt EV on the North American showrooms in few months. As the Bolt EV comes with an improved range of 332 kms, the company is expecting to achieve a sales number of 1200 in a single month. But, as EVs have not been a hot cake for any country yet, we cannot say if Bolt EV will change the segment fate or not.
Before Chevrolet Bolt EV make its way to the roads, the car has already proved its metal by grabbing Motor Trend’s 2017 Car of the Year title. The beautifully sculpted exterior to its impressive performance, spacious interior and advanced technologies, Bolt EV is a complete package. The electric motor of the engine is capable of producing a maximum power output of 200 hp and peak torque of 266 Nm.
For daily commuters who are looking for greener and cheaper means of commuting with their companion, Bolt EV is a good option. We hope Chevrolet bring Bolt EV in the Philippines as well to give greener options to the Filipinos.
