'Electrified' Dodge Charger unveiled with 670hp

MANILA: Dodge has finally revealed the world’s first and only electric muscle car — the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What variants does the electrified Dodge Charger have?

The electric Dodge Charger comes in two variants: Charger Daytona Scat Pack and Charger Daytona R/T.
  • What platform does the Dodge Daytona Charger use?

The Dodge Daytona Charger uses the Stellantis STLA Large platform.
  • Per the American car brand, the electric Dodge Charger makes as much as 670 horsepower (hp). The said figure propels the battery-powered vehicle from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in approximately 3.3 seconds.

Slotted just below the Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack is the Charger Daytona R/T. The latter makes some 496 horses.

“The electrified 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack delivers Charger Hellcat Redeye levels of performance and announces its presence through the world’s first Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust,” said Dodge Brand Chief Executive Officer Tim Kuniskis.

“The next generation of Dodge muscle has arrived,” he added.

    Dodge Charger Daytona EV powertrain

According to Dodge, the all-electric Charger is built using the STLA Large platform: a highly flexible, BEV (battery-electric vehicle)-native platform that has the potential to carry extreme power. In addition, a variety of suspension modules and powertrain cradles can be employed to suit vehicle-specific performance objectives.

The said platform also gave way to the 400-volt propulsion system that powers the all-wheel-drive Dodge Charger Daytona models. This electric vehicle (EV) powertrain system allows the modern muscle cars to offer supercharged V8 performance with zero tailpipe emissions and instant torque response.

Dodge explained that the system incorporates a high-voltage battery pack, a dual integrated charge module, and both a front and rear electric drive module (EDM). Both the front and rear EDM feature three-in-one architecture (inverter, gearbox, and motor), with each generating 335hp and around 406 Newton-meters of pulling power.

    Performance-oriented

The Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack and the Charger Daytona R/T have more than just raw power. They are also equipped with performance-oriented features that make them as fun to drive as their predecessors.

One of these is the Power Shot mode. The said feature delivers an incremental 40hp for 15 seconds when activated by a throttle punch. Various drive modes to accompany the Dodge Charger Daytona EV’s electric powertrain are also available, such as Auto, Eco, Sport, Wet/Snow, and Track and Drag. Further, a Race Options selection is available for the electric muscle cars to help their owners explore the vehicles’ performance capabilities. Donut Mode, Drift Mode, Line Lock, Launch Control, and Race Prep, are some of these exhilarating selections.

    EV with an attitude

The Dodge Charger Daytona EVs do not look like the average electric grocery-getter. Despite the new BEV powertrain, the Michigan-headquartered carmaker made sure to faithfully preserve the timeless aesthetics of the nameplate’s predecessors.

Notabe exterior appointments for the Dodge Charger Daytona models include the patent-pending front R-Wing, a debossed Daytona text logo on the lower rear fascia, a Fratzonic text logo near the patent-pending, world’s first Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust, as well as distinctive white LED cross-car full-width front lighting and red “ring of fire” LED rear taillamps.

    Dodge Charger Daytona RT

Separating the Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack and Charger Daytona R/T models are their fender badges. In addition, the former gets 20-by-11-inch Satin Carbon wheels while the latter comes with 18-by-eight-inch Tech Silver wheels.

Inside, the electrified muscle cars have a 12.3-inch center display paired with either a wide-format 10.25-inch or available 16-inch cluster screens. Also found is a flat top and bottom steering wheel, a modern pistol grip shifter, cloth and leatherette seats, as well as a wireless charger.

Optional packages can be applied to the said models to improve the overall cabin atmosphere.

Production of the Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack and Charger Daytona R/T is scheduled to start next year. These EVs will be built at the Windsor Assembly Plant in Ontario Canada.
