The Ford Bronco New Energy will be available as either a full-electric vehicle or a range-extended electric vehicle. The electric vehicle (EV) and range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) versions of the Blue Oval brand’s rugged SUV were made possible via partnerships with Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC) and BYD. BYD, on the other hand, stepped in to provide the battery technology for the Ford Bronco New Energy.
So, what is the Ford Bronco New Energy offering? Let’s find out.
Same boxy style with new details
At first glance, the Ford Bronco New Energy will wear the same boxy proportions as the internal combustion-powered Bronco Sport. It does, however, have some minor details that will set it apart from its fossil-fuel siblings.
For starters, its front end will feature a closed-off grille with smaller air intakes. Its hood will also host a specially designed air duct that was engineered to provide reduced air resistance and optimized air flow.
Additional flair for the model is provided by a backlit “Bronco” logo on its grille and a unique set of wheels. And once it goes on sale, the Broco New Energy may come in a “Flame Orange” paint job that’s exclusive to the Chinese market.
Ford Bronco New Energy powertrains
Instead of the 1.5-liter inline-3 or 2.0-liter inline-4 EcoBoost engines from the internal combustion US-spec Bronco Sport, the Bronco New Energy will be an EV or a REEV model.
For the EV version, it will be propelled by a dual motor setup paired with a 105.4 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery. At maximum, this version can send up to 176 horsepower (hp) to its front wheels and 275 hp to its rear wheels. It also has a range of 650 kilometers (km), according to the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).
The REEV version, on the other hand, will utilize a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, paired with a 43.7 kWh battery and electric motors. The combustion component, which will act as a generator, has a 150-hp output. Its front motor can produce 176 hp for the front wheels and 245 hp for the rear.
Additionally, the Ford Bronco New Energy REEV can be plugged in to charge. It also has an indicated total range of 1,220 km and an electric-only range of 220 km, according to the CLTC.
Onboard technologies
For now, Ford has yet to share a complete feature list for the Bronco New Energy, but the upcoming ride is expected to come with a host of high-tech amenities and safety features. Some safety gear that the brand said will be present on the electrified Bronco Sport includes, but is not limited to, the following:

- 30+ high precision sensors/cameras
- Smart cabin
