Great Wall unveils Cannon at Auto Shanghai 2019

MANILA: China’s largest pickup truck manufacturer Great Wall is looking ready to compete with the pickups from some of the popular international automakers. Continuing its sterling history in making pickup vehicles, the company has now unveiled its new Cannon at the 2019 Shanghai Autoshow.

Great Wall is promulgating the vehicle as China’s "first international pickup" and also claims that the four-wheeler is made in compliance with Euro NCAP 5-star crash safety standards. The vehicle is based on the brand’s all-new P71 platform, which includes a new ladder frame with the multi-link suspension at the rear. The platform is also said to be lightweight and has a foundational advantage of non-load bearing chassis.

It can be deciphered explicitly that the vehicle is doing away with the traditional ‘practicality’ identity of pickups in a bid to ingress into the passenger pickup segment. This is clear from the fact that Cannon equips a plethora of features inside it. It comes with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment panel, infotainment package with voice commands and internet connectivity,

adaptive cruise control, automatic climate controls and much more. Furthermore, the four-spoke power steering wheel contains a number of controls and the centre console arms a small but elegant gear-level. A new common rail turbo diesel engine makes its way as the powerhouse of the vehicle and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Besides the standard Cannon, there also an off-road concept of the Cannon, which targets the cross-country adventurers. It gets a rugged profile that includes a winch-equipped front bumper, a bold grille, mud-terrain tires, raised suspension, matte black roll bar, and refurbished rear bumper. Furthermore, the interior is also highly sportier with equipment similar to that of the standard Cannon but features an attractive black and yellow colored upholstery.
