MIAS 2025: GWM PH to bring in 2 new offerings 'soon'

MANILA: GWM (Great Wall Motors) Philippines will introduce two new models in the country soon.

This as the Luxuriant-led company previewed the Haval H9 and the new Cannon during a recent engagement with the motoring media.

According to GWM Philippines Dax Avenido, the two models are set to be displayed at the Manila International Auto Show 2025.

The pick-up truck offering will be available for pre-orders there while the sport utility vehicle (SUV) is expected to be retailed locally come the second half of 2025.

Vehicle specifications

Here are some initial details about the two upcoming models.

Cannon

Per GWM Philippines, the GWM Cannon is the best-selling pick-up truck in China with 50-percent market share. Aside from that, it is the sole Chinese pick-up truck model in the Philippines that is offered with a seven-year warranty.

Additionally, the GWM Cannon has sold over 2.65 million units around the world.

Known as Poer in abroad markets, the 2025 GWM Cannon is powered by the company’s updated 2.4-liter turbocharged diesel engine. The said mill can dish out the following figures:

Maximum output (in horsepower [hp>)	178
Peak torque (in Newton-meters [Nm>)	480

Such numbers reflect a 12-percent increase in power (from the previous versions’ 158hp churn) and 20-percent more oomph (compared to the outgoing iteration’s 400 Nm).

Power is sent to the wheels via its nine-speed automatic transmission.

Meanwhile, GWM Philippines shared that the updated Cannon is 10-percent more fuel efficient versus its predecessor.

In addition, the 2025 GWM Cannon features a torque-on-demand 4x4 system and is fitted with the numerous technologies that include:

• Wireless charging
• Ventilated seats
• 12.3-inch infotainment system (with Wireless Apple Carplay and Android connectivity)
• GWM Voice Command Assistance
• Six airbags
• Adaptive cruise control
• Automatic emergency braking system
• Curve Speed Adaptation
• Lane Keep Assist

Haval H9

On the other hand, the GWM Haval H9 (which will go toe-to-toe against the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Montero Sport, and Ford Everest — among others) is a seven-seater midsize SUV that is composed of 99-percent high-strength steel.

As seen during the preview, the GWM Haval H9 comes with Nappa leather and two digital displays (digital gauge cluster and floating infotainment system) and an additional air-conditioning system control at the middle row.

Expected to be retailed around the final quarter of the year, the upcoming model shares the same powertrain as the GWM Cannon and is developed based on the sixth-generation GWM Off-Road technology.
