Honda pranks customers by launching Pet Co-Pilot Front Seat

MANILA: With April Fools’ Day happening last Friday, April 1, Honda joined in the pranking trend by releasing a press statement about its “brand-new range of front passenger seats for pets,” the Pet Co-Pilot Front Seat.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the features of the Dog Co-Pilot Front Seat?

Among the features of the Dog Co-Pilot Front Seat are a XXL seat base with scratch-resistant and water-proof material, XXL seat bolsters to keep the dog safe in the seat, recessed spill-proof bowl holders, air-con vents built into the seat to keep the dog cool, Isofix points for dog harness attachment, and Honda-branded harness.
  • What are the optional features that can be availed for the Dog Co-Pilot Front Seat?

The seat can be customized to meet the needs of both the dog and the human, with optional extras such as bowl holder inserts, glovebox treat dispenser with snout-activated button, 50/50 split meal/treat bowl, in-built squeaker or toy (replaceable) sewn into the seat.
  • In the statement, Honda said that the Dog Co-Pilot Front Seat would be available initially, followed by versions for cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, and fish later in the year. They also joked that a  multi-story gerbil seat will be introduced in 2023.

Each seat is made especially for pets, allowing them to receive the best view in the vehicle with a panoramic view of the surroundings while remaining within paws or fins reach of their human parent.

The seats were said to be available through Honda's dealer network as a factory-installed option or as a retrofit for models produced between April 2017 and March 2022.

Honda also jokingly stated that the seats were produced in response to recent changes in driver attitudes. They even cited a report by Statista that says that 59% of UK households now own a pet.

Honda even added that the Large or Exotic Pet Co-Pilot Front Seat is set to debut in 2024 alongside the Horse Co-Pilot Front Seat.
