Hyundai conveys ‘strength of character’ in AHSS
MANILA: Hyundai vehicles are said to be popular for their "strong character." Although it is easier to assume that this “strength of character” refers to the unique capabilities of Hyundai such as reliability or fuel economy, the reality is more concrete since it can be found from within — the body framework of Hyundai vehicles made with proprietary Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS).
AHSS has numerous properties that make it exceptional. For the past few years, the manufacturing of steel has been progressive due to manufacturers and scientists continuously formulating strategies to improve the strength of steel.
Currently, the AHSS of Hyundai is 10% lighter, but twice as firm as conventional mild steel. This means that when customers drive a Hyundai that is constructed with AHSS, their performance on the road is not significantly affected.
The steel of the auto brand is stronger yet lighter — helping the vehicles' agility. In turn, this results in enhanced fuel efficiency.
AHSS also assists in the improvement of the vehicle’s control of energy transfer in case a collision happens. It dissipates the force caused by an impact more efficiently, leading to heightened safety.
Another distinct property of the AHSS is heritage. Global automakers might have accepted the benefits of AHSS for their vehicles, but the Hyundai Motor Group has built a reputation for itself with its incorporated steelworks.
Hyundai Steel, which is one of the largest electric-arc furnace (EAF) steel manufacturers, has made this possible.
From investing in one of the most innovative steel manufacturing plants worldwide to robot sealing, assembling, cutting, material handling, and actual spot welding, this is Hyundai’s approach in maintaining a non-compromising strategy when it comes to meeting the high standards established for steel and their vehicles.
Safety is another important aspect of AHSS. Hyundai vehicles having this feature excel in terms of crash evaluations.
Some examples of these are the Hyundai Kona (made from 52% AHSS) and the Hyundai Santa Fe (made from 68% AHSS and one of the best-selling models in the European and US auto markets). Both the Kona and the Santa Fe take pride in five-star ratings from the European car safety performance program.
Strength is also one exceptional property of the AHSS. This is because Hyundai vehicles that are designed with AHSS and excel crash tests can still deliver during actual collisions. The research engineers behind the design of every car released have ensured this.
For instance, a highway accident that happened in Busan back in 2012 tested the ability of the Hyundai Accent (made with 50% AHSS) to endure the weight of a 907 kg-container that toppled and fell.
Another is the Hyundai Tucson (made with 51% AHSS) in Taiwan that maintained its form and its passengers only had minor injuries after a large boulder fell on the vehicle last year.
The strength in the AHSS body framework of the mentioned Hyundai vehicles demonstrates its capability as a reliable protective shell that can aid in protecting motorists from possible hazards during road accidents.
As a plus factor, Hyundai passenger vehicles have a five-year unlimited mileage warranty thanks to Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI), the official distributor of the brand’s commercial and passenger vehicles in the country.
For customers who want to know more about the auto brand’s array of models constructed with AHSS, they can visit the official website of Hyundai here or the Hyundai Philippines Facebook page.
As for those who would like to request a quote or apply an auto loan for their preferred models, they can check the Hyundai Online Market Experience (HOME) page here to help them in navigating their vehicle purchase in the safety of their homes.
