Hyundai-GM collab to produce 5 new models
Co-developed compact SUV, EV van, and mid-size pickup truck to launch in 2028
MANILA: Hyundai Motor Company and General Motors (GM) will be introducing a lineup of five co-developed vehicles intended to be released in various markets in Central and South America, as well as North America.

The co-developed compact SUV and mid-size pickup truck will be launched in Central and South America. The model heading to North America, meanwhile, will be an all-electric commercial van.
For now, no further details were shared about the upcoming, yet-to-be-named Hyundai-GM vehicles. The Korean marque, however, did indicate that it is looking to produce more than 800,000 examples a year together with GM, at least when full production scaling kicks in.
Further, the said Hyundai-GM lineup will be launched in their respective markets in 2028. GM will take the lead on the development of the mid-size pickup truck platform, while Hyundai will helm the development of the compact SUV and the electric commercial van.
“Hyundai’s strategic collaboration with GM will help us continue to deliver value and choice to our customers across multiple vehicle segments and markets,” President and Chief Executive Officer of Hyundai Motor Company José Muñoz said.
“Our combined scale in North and South America helps us to more efficiently provide our customers more of what they want - beautifully designed, high-quality, safety-focused vehicles with technology they appreciate,” Muñoz added.
Apart from co-developing new vehicles, the two conglomerates are likewise planning an additional collaboration with regard to sourcing materials, transport, and logistics in North and South America. The two are also looking into partnering up in relation to low-carbon steel production to further their collective sustainable manufacturing thrust.
Hyundai developments in PH
At the moment, there are no indications if the Hyundai-GM models will ever reach Asia and the Philippine market. The brand’s local arm, however, saw big developments in recent weeks.
Recently, Hyundai Motor Philippines Incorporated (HMPH) has opened its latest showroom in Calamba, Laguna. As such, HMPH now has 41 dealerships nationwide.
The company’s Hyundai Mobility Experience event has also returned to Cebu. Plus, HMPH also introduced the “Service with a Heart” aftersales promo, which provides discounts for out-of-warranty vehicles until September 30, 2025.
