Kia EV9 receives 5-star Euro NCAP rating

MANILA: The all-new Kia EV9 received a five-star safety rating from Euro New Car Assessment Program (NCAP).

Awarded with the highest safety rating by Europe's top independent safety testing organization, the seven-seater all-electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) proves its exceptional safety performance.

The EV9 was evaluated in four categories. It scored 84 percent in adult occupant protection, 88 percent in child occupant protection, 76 percent in vulnerable road users protection, and 83 percent in safety assist, which rates a car based on the availability of a full suite of crash avoidance technologies.

Also receiving high marks from Euro NCAP was the EV9's cabin as it maintained stability during the frontal impact test and offered strong protection for each occupant's knees and femur, regardless of size or seating position. The EV9 also received top marks in the side barrier test, offering robust protection for the driver and passengers' critical body parts.

The SUV's cutting-edge eCall technology, which notifies the emergency services in the case of a collision, was also commended.

In the child occupant tests, the EV9 performed considerably better, protecting all the critical body parts of the dummies that represented passengers aged six and 10. The organization praised the EV9's advanced child presence detection system and flexible airbags.

The automatic emergency braking system of the EV9 also performed well when tested by Euro NCAP, avoiding collisions in the majority of test scenarios and responding adequately to other vehicles.

Euro NCAP also acknowledged the EV9's lane keeping assistant, which delicately corrects the vehicle's path if it is drifting out of its lane. The speed assistance system was also found to perform well in determining the local speed limit with the capability to let the system set the limit automatically.

The EV9 is not available in the Philippines yet, however, the local arm of the Korean car brand has confirmed that it will release four new models next year. We’re hoping that the EV9 will be one of them so that Filipinos can also experience the reliable safety performance of the fully electric SUV.
