Lamborghini Urus traverses world’s highest drivable road –– twice

MANILA: The Lamborghini Urus has successfully traversed the highest drivable road in the world at the peak of the Umling La Pass in India, which is 19,300 feet above sea level.

The Umling La Pass was built by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) under weather conditions where the minimum temperature ranges from -20 to -10°C. The road terrain combines gravel, rough, and concrete surfaces with a wind speed changing from 40 to 80 kph, making it one of the most challenging roads to drive on.

The Lamborghini Urus traveled along the road twice last October 8 and 9. Its V8 twin-turbocharged engine was able to showcase its capabilities while unlocking the highest drivable road in the world. The trip proved that the Urus is “the absolute all-round Lamborghini that can explore new paths and unlock the most challenging roads.”

In a statement, Lamborghini India's Sharad Agarwal said, “This is a proud moment for Lamborghini as the Urus unlocks the pinnacle of high-altitude driving across the Umling La Pass. I would like to congratulate the Border Roads Organization and its team on their remarkable achievement. When we reached Umling La Pass, even standing for 30 minutes was extremely difficult, and how the team completed the road in such extreme weather conditions is unimaginable. During the 87.5 km-long drive from Hanle to Umling La, Urus performed brilliantly under the Terra and Sport driving modes on a road that sits higher than the base camp of Mount Everest.”

Lamborghini Urus is the first-ever Super SUV that integrates the spirit of a super sports car with the features of an SUV. It is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that churns out 650cv and 850 Nm of torque. The Urus can sprint from a standstill to 100kph in just 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 305 kph.
