Latest BMW PH president is SMCACD chair’s son

MANILA: BMW Philippines welcomed the month of September with the appointment of Jacob Ang as the new company president.

In a statement, SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation (SMCACD) shared that Ang’s new role took effect yesterday (September 1) — succeeding Spencer Yu, who resigned to the position after leading the firm for seven years.

Jacob is the son of Ramon Ang, chairman and chief executive officer of San Miguel Corporation (SMC), mother company of SMCACD.

Per the SMC-led subsidiary, Ang steps into the role at a time “when demand for premium vehicles in the Philippines is growing, alongside rising interest in electrified mobility.”

“Having been actively involved in the company’s efforts to modernize operations and enhance the customer experience, he is well-prepared to lead the brand into its next chapter of growth,” the company noted.

To recall, the new executive was also seen in BMW Philippines’ recent vehicle launches of the following:

• All-new M5
• X3 30e xDrive M Sport

Meanwhile, the SMCACD chair expressed confidence in the young executive’s capabilities, saying his leadership and fresh perspective will help further bolster the brand’s presence in the country.

“We have built a strong foundation over the years, and with his energy and vision, I am confident he will take the brand further and create even more value for our customers,” Ramon Ang claimed.

For his part, the younger Ang expressed elation over his new position.

“This is an exciting time for our industry and for BMW in the Philippines,” said Jacob Ang. “My priority is to build on what we do best — drive innovation in how we serve our customers, and strengthen BMW’s position as the leader in premium mobility in the country.”
