Lexus unveils updated NX

MANILA: Lexus has launched the revamped NX crossover. It is still the good old second-generation model but it comes with a huge change for its powertrain and other adjustments made to its interior design. 

Notably, the updated Lexus NX was introduced with the theme “Discover Your Edge,” which the Japanese luxury brand says helped it create the necessary changes made to the model. 

“Since its debut as a sporty and stylish compact SUV showcasing both performance and design, the NX has continued to pursue new value without being bound by convention. The appeal it has built over the years has resonated with customers as being ‘just right’ for their individual lifestyles, earning their continued support,” Lexus International Chief Engineer Kunihiko Endo said.

“For the new model, the theme ‘Discover Your Edge’ guided us in our goal of keeping the NX an exciting and inspiring presence. We developed the NX with the desire to create a vehicle that, from the moment you get in and start driving, makes you feel as though your world and possibilities are beginning to expand. Rather than simply heading straight to your destination, you may find yourself wanting to take the long way around. What kind of vehicle could inspire that feeling? We approached development with that question constantly in mind,” Edo added.

Vehicle specifications

The biggest change for the updated Lexus NX has to do with its powertrain. Specifically, its 300h, 350h, and 450h+ variants received the Japanese marque’s sixth-generation electrified powertrain system 

In its most powerful form as the 450h+, it packs a 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) that can produce up to 322 horsepower (hp). Its 350h all-wheel-drive version, also with a 2.5-liter mill, can dish out 242 hp, whereas its entry-level 300h with its 2.0-liter hybrid engine has a maximum churn of 195 hp. 

The Lexus NX 450h+ in particular is said to be capable of accelerating from zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in just 6 seconds. It also has an electric vehicle-only range of 100 kilometers.

For its exterior changes, the Lexus NX received a new LED daytime running lamp signature with two slits on top of each other. It was likewise fitted with black-colored trims for a sportier look. The grille itself was also given a new, finer mesh pattern. Towards the rear, it still retains inverted L-shaped taillights and a light bar, but a light-up Lexus logo has been added in the center.

For its interior, the model’s dash received a new layout featuring a 14-inch infotainment display and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Unlike the old model, which had physical air-conditioning knobs, it used capacitive touch buttons for its automatic climate control system. 

Likewise present on the updated NX is the “Sensory Concierge,” a system that integrates the car’s ambient lighting and a new fragrance system to create a “living-room-like atmosphere, delivering the diverse range of experiences unique to NX.”

No other specifications or features were mentioned by Lexus for the updated NX, although we can be certain that more details about this ride will be published from late 2026 to early 2027. With that said, would you want to see the updated NX on local roads?
