Lotus Cars technology facility to rise in Wellesbourne, UK

MANILA: Lotus Cars made an announcement on July 23 that a dedicated advanced technology center is set to be the site of the new headquarters for the engineering consultancy of the auto company.  The new site will be situated at the Wellesbourne Campus of the University of Warwick, UK.

The new facility will be built in collaboration with Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), a global leader in terms of academic industry, training, education, and scholastic research. The facility includes laboratory space, workshops, and offices with adequate room for expansion.

Originally, 130 engineers are set to move in, and this will complement the team of 500 dedicated engineers at the Lotus Cars home in Hethel, Norfolk.

Lotus Cars CEO Phil Popham said, “Wellesbourne offers an excellent facility, with plenty of expansion potential, and will be the perfect home for our new advanced technology center.  Our engineering and R&D strategy around advanced propulsion systems is locked in step with the government’s vision and broader global ambitions for a low-carbon automotive future.  We look forward to working in collaboration with government and with our new campus neighbors on this future.  Having research partners at the University and WMG will bring significant benefits, as will the Midlands location, which is both very accessible and home to a rich pool of automotive talent.”

Executive Director of Engineering at Lotus Cars Matt Windle also explained that job opportunities, facilities, and new space at Wellesbourne will reach higher demand as the company establishes its portfolio of external projects. He added that the all-electric Lotus Evija hypercar will be the first new product for the company to roll out, with significant emphasis on this at the Wellesbourne facility. This is in line with its project completion and continuous advancement for future programs.

According to the Business and Industry Minister of the UK Government  Nadhim Zahawi MP, the West Midlands has been the core of the engineering and automotive sectors of UK and this particular announcement will pave the way for its legacy to continue. He noted that the new innovative technology center of Lotus will reinforce a strong economic recuperation in Europe and boost the low carbon, electric advancements of the future.

University of Warwick Vice Chancellor and Professor Stuart Croft also remarked that the vital technology and automotive talents and skills are an advantage for most people in the region.

Finally, the Executive Chair Margot James noted that they are looking forward to partner with Lotus Cars on initiatives seeking to establish a more interactive and greener future.
