Lotus sales grow by 24% in 2021

MANILA: Lotus has recorded a 24% global sales increase in 2021, moving a total of 1,710 units versus 1,378 units sold in 2020.

The Lotus Elise emerged as the brand’s best-selling model, with fans clamoring for the highly specced Sport 240 Final Edition and Cup 250 Final Edition models.

Sales performance was outstanding in all parts of the world. In Europe, the UK was up 29%, with Belgium leading the way with a 37% increase. North American retailers saw a 111% increase in year-on-year sales, their best performance in 10 years.

In the Asia-Pacific region, records were broken, with Japan having its best year since 2015, Australia since 2018, and Hong Kong since 2014. Qatar had its best year ever in terms of Lotus sales, which began in 2016. Lotus sold its first new cars in at least seven years in Bahrain, Thailand, and New Zealand, demonstrating the brand’s continuous development.

In a statement, Lotus Sales and Aftersales Executive Director Geoff Dowding said, “Our global retailers have risen to the challenge of giving the Elise, Exige, and Evora the send-off they deserved. It means we’re in great shape for 2022 to focus on the all-new Lotus Emira, our last petrol-powered sports car and the best of breed.”

In parallel, Lotus Cars Managing Director Matt Windle stated, “In difficult circumstances our retailers have delivered what was asked of them and more. It’s testament to their hard work, and that of our manufacturing, marketing, sales and distribution teams around the world. A huge thank you to everyone involved – what a way to move into the era of Emira.”
