Maserati’s first electrified vehicle is the Ghibli Hybrid
MANILA: Maserati has finally joined the long list of automakers going electric with the Ghibli Hybrid, a model with over 100,000 unit produced since its introduction in 2013.
Setting the Ghibli Hybrid apart from its counterpart with conventional engines is its blue color developed by Centro Stile Maserati, which has been chosen to signify all Maseratis using hybrid technology.
The blue hue appears on the side air ducts, brake calipers, and the thunderbolt in the oval that encloses the Trident on the rear pillar. Inside, the same blue can be seen on the embroidered seams of the seats.
Updates on the exterior include a new front grille (bars redesigned to represent a tuning fork) and light clusters in the rear have been restyled to appear with a boomerang-like profile inspired by the 3200 GT and Alfieri concept car.
Like any hybrid, it recovers the vehicle’s kinetic energy when in motion and transforms it into electricity during deceleration and braking before storing it in a battery.
To improve weight distribution, the battery is mounted in the rear of the vehicle and an optimized exhaust and specially designed resonators enhance the engine notes.
The powertrain uses a 2.0L four-cylinder turbocharged engine, a 48-volt alternator, an electric supercharger, and a battery. Total power output is 330 HP and 450 Nm of torque. Top speed of 255 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.
Making its debut in Ghibli Hybrid is the brand’s Connect program highlighted by the Maserati Intelligent Assistant found in the infotainment system. It uses an Android Automotive operating system, an 8.4-inch or 10.1-inch HD screen, and an instrument panel with digital devices and new graphics.
Maserati is set to launch the new GranTurismo and GranCabrio all-electric vehicles in 2021.
