McLaren crosses the 20,000 units milestone with a 600LT Spider
MANILA: McLaren, the famous British supercar manufacturer has just crossed the milestone of producing 20,000 vehicles to date. While the number might look meek in front of the millions of vehicles that other manufacturers sell in a year itself. However, selling 20,000 supercars is no mean feat considering the fact that building a single supercar takes some really expensive parts and numerous man-hours.
It has been around eight years since the company inaugurated its McLaren Production Center (MPC) and the plant has given rise to its production capacity. Speaking of the 20,000th McLaren, it is a right-hand drive 600LT Spider that comes dipped in Chicane Gray. Complementing the stylish exterior is a trendy red interior.
The credit for the achievement goes to the dedication, commitment, and hard work, of the MPC employees, believes Dr. Jens Ludmann, Chief Operating Officer for McLaren Automotive. He also added, “We’re now able to produce 20 cars a day across many different vehicle types and variants”.
A second production shift has also been the reason behind McLaren achieving the 20,000 units mark in such quick time. The unit came to life in 2016 and was intended to boost the production so that McLaren could cater to the increasing public demand. While the British automaker was producing some 10 cars in a day, the number went up to 20 after the introduction of the second shift.
“Achieving our 20,000th car built is an important milestone for McLaren Automotive. Last year we hand-assembled just over 4,800 cars and we plan to maintain around 5,000 cars a year for the immediate future. While demand for our products continues to grow, we aim to balance that to maintain exclusivity for our brand and our customers,” said Mike Flewett, Chief Executive Office for McLaren Automotive.
