Mercedes-Benz Previews New GLC Crossover

Mercedes-Benz Previews New GLC Crossover

MANILA: If the GLA is too small and the GLE is too expensive than here is the boon, Mercedes come with the GLC crossover to replace GLK, its predecessor in the mid-size segment. The GLC offers both left and right-hand drive as well as claims lower fuel consumption by up to 19 %. It is spacious, comfortable and weighs 80 kg less than its forebear.

“Our new GLC represents a further, systematic step in the implementation of our successful SUV philosophy. It combines the ultimate driving comfort with a sporty touch, impresses on the road and – more than ever – off it as well, and appeals to the eye with the new design and equipment line," says Thomas Weber, member of the Management Board of Daimler AG and responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development.

The crossover is built on the Modular Rear Architecture platform with measurements as 4656 mm X 1890 mm X 1639 mm and wheelbase measuring as 2870 mm. With extensive use of aluminum on the exterior the design is such that “favours sensual purity and a modern aesthetic over the classic off-road look,” says Mercedes-Benz. It is featured with upstanding and audacious grille with the three-pointed star in the middle of the grille, full LED headlights, and the bumpers come with integrated under guards. The crossover rolls in three variants; the base model, an off-road pack with larger angles of approach and departure, and an AMG variant.

For Mercedes-Benz, the crucial and prominent areas in the GLC's interiors include its dashboard, center console and one-piece console panel that stretches from the center air vents to the armrest. The cavernous interiors provide a lot of comfort and legroom. With rear seats folding, the crossover can hold 1600 liters of luggage. GLC shows up with company's new touchpad in the headrest over the rotary dial. The new COMAND system permits the entry of numbers, special characters, and letters in handwriting.

Talking about the engines, the GLC will carry a mix of gas, diesel and a plug-in hybrid. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine starts from GLC 250 which throws out 211 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. The range of diesel engine comprises the GLC 220d with 170 PS and 400 Nm and GLC 250d that generates 204 PS and 500 Nm. The citizens of States get the GLC 300 which spurts out 245 PS and 369 Nm. The plug-in hybrid variant is called as GLC 350e which combines an output of GLC 250 and of an electric motor generating 116 PS. So total output burst is of 327 PS.

You can purchase and park the new Mercedes anytime soon in the garage as the new utility is available for sales from November 2015.
