Mercedes Benz Vision EQ Silver Arrow reimagining the 1930s

MANILA: A lot happened in the 1930s including the Great Depression, political turmoil, and super fast and fancy automobiles. Among these was the Mercedes Benz W125 Rekordwagen which was one of the best looking, ravishing, and fastest car the decade had seen. The car also broke records for it was the first to cross the 400kmph mark.

After some 80 years, the Stuttgart based company has decided to reimagine Rekordwagen for the 21st century. As a tribute to the thirties and to the Rekordwagen, Benz has brought the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQ Silver Arrow. It is just the old car reinterpreted and fitted with today’s electric tech.

The Rekordwagen had a supercharged, 5.6-litre V12 engine that was good enough to produce 725 PS of power. This is amazing considering it was 80 years ago. Well, it still is. The Vision EQ Silver Arrow concept however, has ditched the internal combustion for a pure electric drive. The powerful and slim batteries have made it quite a powerhouse though. The all-electric modern Silver Arrow concept packs 750PS, which is a bit more than the Rekordwagen. The new car will output a magnificent 740 PS and will attain a top speed of 402 kmph.

Taking note of the design, the all-new EQ silver Arrow concept model is the same sleek streamliner as the Rekordwagen with low-dangling appearance. The car is 17-feet long and its front almost touches the ground. The side profile of the 21st-century car is narrow from the top and widens towards the bottom. The single-seat feature provides the driver with a central driving experience.

Both new EQ Silver Arrow and Rekordwagen feature the same small windshield visors. Another remarkable feature is the size of the wheels. The front and the rear ones measure 24- and 26-inches in diameter respectively with both featuring 168 spokes.

The all-new EQ Silver Arrow is entirely painted in silver color and the interior of the new car is furnished with rich, traditional materials namely leather, brushed aluminium and solid walnut, thus giving EQ Silver Arrow concept a prepossessing look.

However, the company has not claimed that this model would be a record-setter too but it will surely be a quick car if it sees the light of production.
