Tough looks

One of the reasons why many people are drawn to the Mitsubishi Xpander is its looks.

Boasting an appeal close to the Mitsubishi Montero Sport, the MPV has won the hearts of many car buyers who want a vehicle that can seat seven occupants, but will not be as expensive to maintain as a sport utility vehicle (SUV).

At its fore is the Mitsubishi Dynamic Shield fascia flanked by its iconic T-shaped illumination. It now has a redesigned grille, which makes it look sleeker.

To its sides are new wheels with a two-tone finish. These complement the vehicle’s blacked-out pillars and side sill garnishes.

At the back, the Mitsubishi Xpander also sports T-shaped lights and a beefy bumper with reflectors on each side. Notable too is its roof-mounted spoiler with an integrated brake lamp.

Overall, the MPV looks robust and capable, whether it will be used for daily commutes or for spontaneous weekend trips.

Customers wanting more “pogi points” can go for the range-topping Mitsubishi Xpander Cross that gets a more aggressive-looking grille with a suite of claddings on its wheel arches and side sills. The bumper also gives it added character, ideal for those who like to go outdoors.

Roomy interior

The interior of the Mitsubishi Xpander is roomy and allows seven passengers to sit comfortably inside.

Occupants sitting at the back even get a pull-down armrest, and the space in the third-row is not bad.

Tech-wise, the Mitsubishi Xpander isn’t too shabby. For the top-of-the-line model, the updated steering wheel has multi-functional controls. Past it is an instrument cluster that resembles that of the XForce. It also has an infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

In addition, the top-tier model has an interior finished with maroon accents.

Familiar power

Under the hood of the Mitsubishi Xpander is the familiar powerplant used for the pre-facelift model. It is comprised of a 1.5-liter gasoline engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission.

This delivers 103 horsepower and 141 Newton-meters of torque.

Supporting the MPV is a MacPherson strut setup at the fore with a torsion beam arrangement at the back. For halts and deceleration, it uses disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear.
