Isuzu mu-X: 3 reasons to buy

The Isuzu mu-X has earned a level of reputation for being a solid sport utility vehicle (SUV) among many Filipino enthusiasts. It can be seen ferrying kids to school or being used for weekday commutes, as well as a vehicle of choice for weekend warriors who want to spend relaxing coffee runs outside the metro or those who seek adventure in the boondocks. 

On that note, we take a look at three reasons why car buyers should consider getting the beefy SUV for their next ride. 

Refreshed look 

While we may not like to admit it, one of the main reasons that affects a person’s decision when purchasing vehicles is its looks. After all, you do not want to pick a vehicle you would be ashamed to be seen in, right? 

That said, the new Isuzu mu-X now boasts a refreshed look that makes it more appealing to today’s generation of car buyers. 

At the fore, the SUV now packs a sharper look, which Isuzu claims to have been inspired by a jet fighter. Further, it has functional air vents on its cheeks, which says a lot about the design philosophy that went into building the Isuzu mu-X. 

Some notable features on its side profile include a set of 20-inch wheels, chunky step boards, roof rails, and body-colored door handles. At the back, it gets taillamps with an “embraced line” design, discreet roof rails with a high-mount stop lamp, and aggressive-looking diffusers.

Decent interior 

Inside, the Isuzu mu-X gets decent appointments. 

The range-topping model, for example, is fitted with seats that have leather upholstery. There are also some soft-touch materials inside the cabin. 

Further, the vehicle uses a seven-inch instrument cluster paired with a 10-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. 

Buttons for controlling the SUV’s several functions are always within reach of the driver. These include air conditioning buttons, and the knob to switch the drivetrain setting and activate the 4X4 system as well as the various terrain modes available. 

Capable powertrain, reliable chassis 

Powering the range-topping Isuzu mu-X is a 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. This setup produces 187 horsepower and 450 Newton-meters of torque, which is good for many types of driving scenarios from crawling malls to going on spontaneous weekend getaways. 

Suspension-wise, it uses a double wishbone arrangement with coil springs alongside a high-mounted upper control arm and stabilizer at the fore. Its rear gets a five-link coil spring setup with a stabilizer bar. 

This organization makes it so that the Isuzu mu-X offers decent ride quality that sits in the middle of stiff and soft.

Final thoughts 

The Isuzu mu-X is offered in four variants at the time of writing, with a sticker price that ranges from P1.725 million to P2.67 million. 

It is not surprising why many pick the SUV because of its versatility as a capable city car and a potential weekend off-roader.
