From The Experts

  • Pros
  • Cons
Isuzu mu-X

Powerful engines under the hood

Attractively designed

A good number of safety features offered

Three engine variants on offer

Toyota Fortuner

Compared to the butch old school and dated appeal of other high-end SUVs from Toyota, the Fortuner looks as if it belongs to the future. The Fortuner looks radical and aerodynamic – a sentence which rarely makes sense when SUVs are taken into conversation.

For a vehicle of this size and butch appeal, the Fortuner amazes you with its incredibly low after sales maintenance costs. The service bills are comparable to that of a premium hatchback from other car makers, which is one hard but true fact to believe. This is another major reason why Toyota is praised a lot for its quality and durability on a worldwide basis.

The humongous size and dimensions of the Fortuner literally translate into acres of space available on the inside. Being a seven-seater SUV, the Fortuner has ample amount of space for both second as well as third row, making it one of the most practical large SUVs in the market right now.

Ford Everest

When it comes to intimidating stance and road presence, nothing comes close to the Ford Everest. The huge dimensions along with butch looks and design give the Ford Everest a much larger feel in both standstill as well as while in motion, thus commanding huge respect from fellow drivers on the road.

Even on the inside, the Ford Everest feels plush and premium with a good mix of colors and features it is equipped with. The instrument console as well as touch screen infotainment system feels modern and contemporary, while at the same time, the long list of comfort and convenience features do make the Ford Everest feel expensive and value for money.

All the three rows of seats of the Ford Everest feel comfortable, and while the legroom and knee room isn’t best-in-class, it still feels plush and imparts refined ride quality for longer routes. The panoramic sunroof, as well as large side glasses, further add to the spacious feel on the inside.

Isuzu mu-X

The top end trim is slightly on the expensive side

AWD not available on the 1.9-litre engine variant

Toyota Fortuner

While the large dimensions and size definitely give the Fortuner an authoritative stance, the same butch appeal makes a fowl play when driven in tight city traffic conditions. The big turning radius, as well as large dimensions, need experienced hands to keep it under control.

The Fortuner looks absolutely smashing when viewed from the outside, however, things are sadly not the same when you step into the cabin. The dashboard layout feels a bit plain for a vehicle of this premium stature.

Complementing the staid appeal of the Fortuner’s interior cabin layout is the lack of comfort and convenience features in it. In a time when SUVs are preferred over sedans thanks to the formers’ flexibility and more number of features, the Fortuner packs in much lower features when compared to rivals.

Ford Everest

The diesel engine with which the Ford Everest is equipped with feels mighty and powerful while on the go, the slow automatic gearbox ruins the driving experience a bit. The shifts feel a bit lazy, especially in lower gears, which gives it a bit slow acceleration figures despite having great power and torque figures.

Another slight problem with the engine of the Ford Everest is that it feels a bit noisy. The engine feels noisy on the outside, especially when revved hard. Also, the refinement of the engine too isn’t that great in higher rpms.

The big dimensions do give the Ford Everest a great and commanding road presence. However, the Ford Everest feels cumbersome to drive in city traffic conditions, due to much longer wheelbase as well as high turning radius.
