Zigwheels weekly wrap: Sept. 22-26

MANILA: This week in motoring, a premium German car brand added a new model to its local stable while a Japanese carmaker bid farewell to one of its global offerings.

Further, a Chinese auto brand slashed the price of its plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV), while one of the biggest players in the market expanded its reach by adding a new dealer somewhere in northern Luzon.

Lastly, the automotive industry mourned the loss of an icon.

Mercedes-Benz Philippines welcomed a new addition to its stable with the GLE 400 e. The PHEV complements the GLE 450 and comes in as a sustainable choice for premium car customers.

Jetour Auto Philippines, on the other hand, slashed the price of the X70 Lightning i-DM, with the cost dropping by P150,000. According to the company, the move was a “direct response to the demands of the Philippine market, where families seek vehicles offering ample space, fuel efficiency to manage rising costs, and modern technology—all at an accessible price point.”

BMW Philippines, too, is offering discounts for select models, ranging from P300,000 to P2.9 million.

These models range from fully internal combustion cars to those fitted with battery-electric powertrains.

On the other hand, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation has expanded its reach in the local market by opening its 68th dealer in Ilocos Sur.

The facility is operated by NAMCO Sur Corporation.

Global buzz

Subaru finally pulled the plug on the Legacy mid-size sedan. The last unit rolled out of its Indiana factory in the United States after a 36-year-long run.
