MIAS 2026: Denza showcases B5, B8, Z9 GT

MANILA: Denza, a joint venture between the BYD Group and the Daimler AG (currently Mercedes-Benz Group), has previewed the B5, B8, and Z9 GT at the ongoing Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) 2026.

BYD and Denza Philippines Country Head Adam Hu revealed that its two new plug-in hybrid sport utility vehicle (SUV) will be officially launched on April 23 at the ASEANA Open Grounds, Paranaque City. A customer event will also be held until April 26, following the launch of the two models. 

Meanwhile, the official launch of the Z9 GT, the brand’s new high-performance luxury electric vehicle (EV) sedan, has not been shared yet. 

The luxury arm of BYD did not share the vehicles’ respective specifications during the presentation, but here are some facts about the three nameplates according to the official Denza PH website and international sources (for the Z9 GT).

Denza B5

Overseas, the Denza B5 runs on Denza’s DMO Super Hybrid technology that combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a dual-motor setup, resulting in the following performance metrics:

Maximum output (in horsepower [hp>)	Gasoline engine: 181 Front motor: 200 Rear motor: 285 Combined: 677
Peak torque (in Newton-meters [Nm>)	Gasoline engine: 260 Front motor: 360 Rear motor: 400 Combined: 760

This midsize plug-in hybrid SUV’s dual-motor setup is paired with a 31.8-kilowatt-hour (kWh) BYD Blade battery pack. It also carries an 83-liter fuel tank. The combination of the battery pack and the fuel from the tank results in a 975-kilometer (km) NEDC combined range for this model. 

Equipped with a front and rear electronic differential system as well as a DiSus-P suspension system, the B5 exudes a strong rugged character on the road.

For its cabin, the vehicle is outfitted with the following:

• 15.6-inch ultra-HD center control screen
• 12.3-inch full-LCD 3D instrument cluster
• W-HUD head-up display
• 360-degree view monitor
• Electronic surnoof (with sunshade)
• Multi-color ambient lighting

It also comes with a long list of intelligent driver assistance systems, which includes the following:

• Adaptive cruise control
• Forward collision warning
• Rear collision warning
• Blind spot detection
• Intelligent cruise control
• Ultrasonic radar
• Smart driving high perception camera

Denza B8

Meanwhile, the B8, the full-size counterpart of the B5, is expected to come in two variants: Dynamic and higher-spec Premium. The B8’s 2.0-liter gasoline engine is also paired with a dual-motor setup, delivering the following numbers: 

Maximum output (in hp)	Gasoline engine: 241 Front motor: 268 Rear motor: 402 Combined: 603
Peak torque (in Nm)	Gasoline engine: 380 Front motor: 360 Rear motor: 400 Combined: 760

This full-size plug-in hybrid SUV comes with a 36.9-kWh BYD Blade battery pack and a 91.5-liter tank, resulting in a whopping 1,040-km NEDC combined range.

Similar to its smaller counterpart, the B8 is also expected to deliver great off-roading prowess, courtesy of its DiSus-P Intelligent Damping Suspension and electronic differential system.

Among the advanced intelligent driver assistive technologies fitted in the Denza B8 are:

• Adaptive cruise control
• Automatic emergency braking
• Intelligent cruise control
• Blind spot detection
• Ultrasonic radar
• Smart driving surround view and high perception camera

The vehicle’s cabin is affixed with:

• 17.3-inch ultra HD center control screen (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto-ready)
• 12.3-inch full-LCD 3D instrument cluster
• 4-way power adjustable seats
• 360-degree view monitor
• Keyless entry and one-touch start system
• Multi-color ambient lighting

Denza Z9 GT

Moving on to the high-performance offering. The Z9 GT comes with a triple-motor setup that is said to deliver an impressive power output of 858 hp. This luxury shooting brake (wagon) can be driven as either a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or a battery electric vehicle (BEV)–showcasing Denza’s versatility.
