MG to introduce ZS PHEV+ in 2027
Model headlines new plug-in hybrid technologies
MANILA: Morris Garages (MG) is ramping up its electrified powertrain portfolio with the upcoming launch of the ZS plug-in hybrid electric vehicle plus (PHEV+) in 2027. This goes together with a new “Navigate on Autopilot” (NOA) system, which will come with another model, a sport utility vehicle (SUV), also in 2027.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What are the engine options of the MG ZS PHEV+?
Per MG, the ZS PHEV+ will come with a 1.1-liter or 1.5-liter turbocharged plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrain. What are the key technologies of the MG PHEV+ powertrain?
Two key technologies in the MG PHEV+ powertrain are “Power Split” and “Motor Decoupling.”Per the brand, the MG ZS PHEV+ will feature a newly developed electrified powertrain system that uses next-generation gasoline engine components. These include 1.1-liter and 1.5-liter turbocharged variants, which are currently being designed from the ground up to optimize PHEV applications.
Thanks to these new gasoline mills, the ZS PHEV+ is said to achieve a thermal efficiency of up to 43 percent, thus delivering enhanced performance and fuel economy.
Additionally, the new PHEV+ powertrain comes with the MG-developed “Power Split” and Motor Decoupling” technologies.

Motor Decoupling, meanwhile, can disconnect the combustion motor during electric driving, reducing mechanical friction and thus improving electric motor efficiency.
Both of these technologies can be activated by the MG PHEV+ automatically depending on driving conditions. But beyond that, the said powertrain also boasts strong performance, with an estimated zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) time of just six seconds.
For now, no other specifications for the MG ZS PHEV+ and its revolutionary powertrain were mentioned, so let’s wait for more updates from the Chinese marque.

SolidCore Battery
In addition to the PHEV+ powertrain, MG highlighted the SolidCore Battery. It is intended for PHEV nameplates, though it was not stated whether it will be available for the ZS PHEV+.
Photo from MG United KingdomNotably, the SolidCore Battery utilizes a three-dimensional spinel semi-solid-state battery architecture, which is said to deliver higher power response and better energy conversion than traditional batteries.
These, MG says, translate into more consistent power delivery, better range, and enhanced performance across a variety of driving conditions.
MG self-driving technology
MG is also revolutionizing its advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS) offerings through Navigate on Autopilot and One Touch iAD technologies.
The NOA, as its name suggests, is the brand’s in-house-developed self-driving system, which will also be introduced in Europe in 2027.
At launch, MG says it will be capable of motorway (highway) driving and will take into account entry and exit points, traffic flow, and lane markings. In doing so, the technology aims to reduce the “cognitive load” on drivers during long highway stints. Then again, the brand implied that it will still require a driver to be in control and “fully responsible” for the vehicle.
Photo from MG United KingdomMG’s NOA also ties into its Level 4 Robotaxi service, which will enter trials in Germany, the Middle East and China. Not many details were confirmed for this, but unlike NOA, MG’s robotaxis are touted to be capable of handling the urban environments of the aforementioned regions.
The One Touch iAD is a highly advanced parking assist system that aims to automate many parking scenarios. In fact, MG claims to cover more than 300 types of parking spaces and 30 complex scenarios.
MG ZS Hybrid+ in PH
We don’t know what the MG ZS PHEV+ looks like for now, but we are guessing that it will borrow some styling cues from the MG ZS Hybrid+ that’s currently sold in the local market. As of this publication, the MG ZS HEV retails at P1.329 million.

Paired with the hybrid powertrain are a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, a 1.83-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery, and a regenerative braking system.
Some notable features of the MG ZS Hybrid+ include, but are not limited to:
- MG Pilot ADAS
- 12.3-inch infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Power-adjustable driver’s seat
- Leather upholstery
- Automatic air-conditioning
- Keyless entry system
- Panoramic sunroof
- Intelligent headlamp control
