BAIC looks to replicate B40e Trailmaster rEV performance in PH

MANILA: BAIC Philippines, under the stewardship of United Asia Automotive Group Incorporated, looks to replicate the B40e Trailmaster rEV’s performance in the country.

In its home market, the said model has been named the number-one best-selling new-energy hardcore off-road sport utility vehicle (SUV) for three consecutive months. 

Citing the data published by MarkLines (a business-to-business information platform and global database exclusively for the automotive industry), BAIC Philippines shared that the B40e Trailmaster rEV surpassed the offerings of other established players in China.

The result — BAIC pointed out — reflects the rising demand for electrified adventure vehicles that offer real off-road capability, comfort, smart technology, and better driving efficiency.

“At BAIC, our goal is to give the modern Filipino driver new-energy SUVs that fit the way Filipinos actually live. Vehicles that are capable on any road, efficient for everyday use, and ready for any adventure,” BAIC Philippines Brand Head Timothy Sytin was quoted as saying.

B40e Trailmaster rEV fast facts

Powering the BAIC B40e Trailmaster rEV are dual electric motors with a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine range-extender. The said setup is paired with a 40.3-kilowatt-hour ternary lithium-ion battery.

In unison, the electrified powertrain makes approximately 539 horsepower and 655 Newton-meters of torque, with a combined range of over 1,200 kilometers.

The off-road SUV is built on BAIC’s globally recognized platform and is fitted with an electric four-wheel drive system with front and rear differential locks.  

On top of its capable powertrain and chassis, it was built with adventure-ready dimensions that allow for a 2,760 millimeter (mm) wheelbase and a ground clearance of 210 mm.

In addition, it has a 36-degree approach angle, a 31-degree departure angle, a 23-degree ramp angle, and a 750 mm wading depth.

The BAIC B40e Trailmaster rEV rides on 20-inch two-tone alloy wheels with Maxxis all-terrain tires.

Creature comfort appointments come in the form of a five-seater layout with the front seats having massage, heating, ventilation, and leg rest functions. It is also fitted with a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster and dual 12.8-inch displays (center control, co-pillot).  

It also has a dual-zone air conditioning system, as well as an Infinity-branded 12-speaker system with a digital signal processor. 

Safety-wise, it gets a full suite of advanced driver-assist systems, which include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and “Sentinel Mode.” It also has a 360-degree view camera and an automatic parking system.

According to BAIC Philippines, the B40e Trailmaster rEV’s bold design and an electrified powertrain allow the nameplate to further establish the marque as a serious contender in the global SUV market, appealing to professionals, families, and adventure-driven drivers alike.

“The growing recognition of BAIC’s off-road lineup internationally highlights the brand’s continued commitment to innovation and performance. The B40 platform has become one of the strongest names in the hardcore SUV category, with MarkLines data placing the BJ40e REEV (range-extended electric vehicle) at the top of the new-energy segment for three consecutive months, earning recognition for its balance of durability, advanced technology, and everyday usability,” the company wrote in a press release.

“BAIC Philippines’ continued investment in electrified, off-road-capable models also reflects growing momentum for the brand locally, supported by an expanding dealer network and strengthening aftersales infrastructure nationwide, including this month’s UAAGI On the Move at SM Megamall Fashion Hall, where the B40e Trailmaster rEV joins the rest of the lineup on display,” it added.
