New Bentley Continental GT gets nameplate’s 4th straight Best Cars award

MANILA: The new Bentley Continental GT won the nameplate its fourth consecutive Best Cars award title from German auto magazine Auto Motor und Sport. 

Per the British luxury car brand, the latest iteration of the grand tourer rose above 462 vehicles across 13 categories and was selected by the publication’s readers as the top model in the luxury class. 

According to Bentley, the new Continental GT was recognized for its blend of “supercar performance, handcrafted luxury features, and stunning design.” More importantly, its Ultra Performance Hybrid system has been credited for its recent Best Cars honor. 

Hybrid power

The Bentley Continental GT’s Ultra Performance Hybrid system combines an electric motor with a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 engine. In unison, the setup produces the following figures: 

Maximum power (in horsepower)	782
Maximum torque (in Newton-meters)	1,000

 

Bentley pointed out that the combination of the V8 engine and the electric motor translates to more torque across the rev range. 

Further, the electric motor’s boost leads to rapid acceleration from low- to mid-range speeds. At fast-paced driving, increased performance is delivered by the V8 engine. 

Power is delivered to all four wheels thanks to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and an electronic limited-slip differential. 

Finally, ensuring impressive ride quality is a new dual valve damper system and dual chamber air springs. 

The abovementioned appointments ensure that the new Bentley Continental GT is able to deliver the below numbers: 

• From zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in 3.1 seconds 
• Top speed of 335 kph 
• All-electric driving range of 80 kilometers

Filipino luxury car enthusiasts can get the new Bentley Continental GT, which boasts the aforementioned hybrid powertrain. 

Moreover, local buyers — according to the brand’s Philippine website — can choose from three other models in the grand tourer’s family range, which are the phenomenally powerful Continental GT Speed, the wellbeing-focused Continental GT Azure, and the Continental GT Mulliner, which combines the best of both worlds.
