Red Bull Racing confirms their partnership with Honda
MANILA: Honda is the official supplier of Red Bull Racing engine for 2019 Formula 1 – Season 1. Earlier, Red Bull Racing featured Renault engines with which it has won more than 50 races as well as 4 back to back championships. Red Bull has signed a 2-year contract with the Japanese car maker.
Toro Rosso, the sister company of Red Bull works as a junior to Red Bull racing and both are owned by the Austrian beverage brand Red Bull. Toro Rosso first marked its debut in the year 2006 with the aim of training drivers with skills required by the senior team.
Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner said: ““This multi-year agreement with Honda signals the start of an exciting new phase in Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s efforts to compete not just for Grand Prix wins but for what is always our goal – championship titles. After careful consideration and evaluation, we are certain this partnership with Honda is the right direction for the team. We have been impressed by Honda’s commitment to F1, by the rapid steps they have made in recent times with our sister team Scuderia Toro Rosso, and by the scope of their ambition, which matches our own.”
Honda had been facing numerous difficulties since the 2015 McLaren partnership, the reason they drifted away has been put on Honda’s lack of performance & reliability. This resulted in McLaren choosing Renault Power for the 2018 season.
Red Bull has been struggling to match his rivals Mercedes and Ferrari in the hybrid era and they have publicly blamed the lack of pace in Renault Power engines. Now that Honda is the supplier to both of their teams they will work upon the engine supply operation.
Even Honda has acknowledged this partnership with Scuderia Toro Rosso and Aston Martin Red Bull racing, they are also happy to work with 2 sister companies which would let them access more data and get them closer to their ultimate goal - winning race, and championships.
